Overview

Backups run automatically every hour, while incremental saves limit each run to new or changed data. Unlimited versions support point-in-time restoration, and backups can be restored to another account or domain. CubeBackup says restore remains available after a subscription expires, a useful safeguard when a renewal lapses, though it does not remove the need for an active license to back up users.

Storage can stay on a local disk or NAS, or go to Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, or S3-compatible services such as Backblaze B2 and Wasabi. That flexibility is the central appeal: organizations can choose where their backup copies live rather than relying on a single bundled destination.

Key features

Google Workspace coverage includes Gmail, Drive, Shared Drives, Contacts, Calendar, and Sites. Microsoft 365 coverage includes OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook Mail, People, and Calendar. The supported SaaS app list also includes Exchange Online and Teams channel posts. This breadth makes CubeBackup a practical candidate for organizations protecting both suites, rather than a narrow single-service archive.

Security measures include AES and RSA encryption for backups, TLS 1.2 for data in transit, two-factor authentication for the console, and an immutable audit log. CubeBackup says it complies with GDPR, CCPA, and other data-protection regulations. These controls support a security-conscious deployment, but they do not replace an organization’s own compliance assessment.

Pricing

CubeBackup is paid software with a 14-day free trial and no free plan. The listed per-user annual plans are:

Education / Non-profit: 2.00 USD per year, billed at $2 / user / year.
Business / Enterprise: 5.00 USD per year, billed at $5 / user / year.

Both plans are per user, and backups for Shared drives, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint sites are free of charge. Those shared-resource backups do not eliminate licensing for active backup users. The lower-priced plan is aimed at education and non-profit organizations; the business plan is the stated option for other organizations. Both include the same stated shared-resource treatment, so the meaningful pricing distinction is eligibility, not a separate feature tier.

The 14-day trial gives teams a short window to evaluate deployment and backup needs. The Google Workspace download page lists Windows 10 64-bit and above, Windows Server 2016 64-bit and above, and several Linux distributions as supported systems.

Platforms

CubeBackup is listed for API, Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows environments. Its self-hosted model and listed Windows and Linux support suit teams able to manage a deployment; organizations looking for a fully managed backup service may prefer a different approach.

Who it's for

CubeBackup is best suited to organizations using Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or both that want hourly automated backups, unlimited version history, and control over storage location. Its per-user prices are especially compelling for eligible education and non-profit buyers. It is less suitable for teams that do not want to operate self-hosted software or cannot license active backup users.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage across Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 makes it useful for mixed-suite environments.
Pros: Local, NAS, and several major cloud storage destinations give administrators meaningful control over backup placement.
Pros: Hourly runs, incremental backups, unlimited versions, and cross-account or domain restores support flexible recovery.
Pros: Restore remains available after subscription expiration, and shared-resource backups are free of charge.
Cons: Active backup users still require licenses, so free shared-resource coverage does not make the service free to operate.
Cons: Self-hosting requires a supported Windows or Linux environment and an organization prepared to manage its deployment.
Cons: The 14-day trial is brief for organizations that need a longer evaluation period.

Alternatives

Consider these options if their pricing model or service scope better matches your needs:

Afi.ai Google Workspace Backup is a web-based alternative with a 3.00 USD per month SaaS Backup plan, starting from five users, and automated three-times-daily backups. Pick it if that cadence and a web platform better suit your requirements than CubeBackup’s self-hosted approach.
SpinOne offers a 3.00 USD per month SpinBackup plan with one backup per day and 30GB per license, plus a $5,000/year minimum subscription. It may suit buyers whose needs fit those terms, but the minimum makes it a poor match for smaller budgets.
CloudAlly Google Workspace Backup has personalized custom pricing based on users and application requirements. Choose it if a quote-based subscription is preferable.
GWS Backup has a free plan and supports Linux, macOS, self-hosted, and Windows environments; consider it if those platform options and a free plan are the priority.
IDrive has a freemium model, a free plan with 10 GB storage, and a 0.25 USD per month IDrive Mini plan with 100 GB for one user. It is an option when those listed storage limits and pricing fit your needs.
SysCloud Backup has a Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Box plan for organizations with 500–999 users; consider it if that user range and service mix match your requirements.
AvePoint Cloud Backup uses custom pricing; request a quote if that pricing approach suits your buying process.
Keepit offers custom-priced plans including recovery for up to five years, always-hot storage, SSO and MFA, and standard business-hours support in its Core Continuity plan. Consider it if those continuity and support terms are a closer fit.

Verdict

Choose CubeBackup if your organization needs Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 backups, wants to control where copies are stored, and can support a self-hosted deployment. Hourly incremental backups, unlimited versions, broad suite coverage, and low per-user annual plans make a strong case. Look elsewhere if you need a free service, do not want to manage deployment, or cannot license active backup users.
