Overview

Snow work creates a documentation and billing burden alongside the work itself. CrewNest brings event logs, route dispatch, material estimates, and contract-based invoicing together, giving operators a way to connect service records to customer jobs. It is an early-stage product, so businesses choosing it should weigh that positioning against their need for a mature field-service system.

The company is based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. CrewNest supports Android, iOS, and web; it describes its phone experience as a Progressive Web App that works on iPhone and Android without an app-store download. See our Snow Removal Software guide for more options.

Key features

Event records and weather context

Snow event logs capture timestamps, accumulation totals, and service notes, while weather data and accumulation notes can be attached to jobs. That creates a more auditable account of service than a basic invoice alone, which is useful when contractors need to keep event details with the customer record.

Materials, routes, and billing

Salt and deicer calculators estimate material needs from surface area and conditions. Map-based dispatch assigns crews to routes and zones, and route planning and crew scheduling support coordination across jobs. Invoicing can be per push, per visit, per inch, or a seasonal flat rate. Seasonal contracts can use fixed monthly or per-event pricing, with invoices generated from contract terms after events. These options suit different snow-service billing models, though they do not by themselves establish how well the system handles more complex operations.

Payments and safeguards

CrewNest uses Stripe for payment processing and identifies Twilio for SMS, Google Maps for satellite imagery and geocoding, Clerk for authentication, Resend for transactional email, and Turso for database hosting. Its privacy policy describes HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, role-based access controls, and regular security audits. Support is available through support@crewnest.app and support documentation.

Pricing

CrewNest has a free tier and a 14-day trial. Free Forever costs 0.00 USD per month and includes one user, customer management, job scheduling, basic invoicing, and offline mode through the PWA. Its monthly caps are three estimates, ten satellite measurements, and 50 SMS messages. That is a useful starting point for a solo operator, but the estimate and measurement quotas can constrain active quoting, and the single seat excludes a working crew.

Pro Plan costs 29.99 USD per month. It raises estimates, invoices, satellite measurements, and team members to unlimited, and adds a customer booking portal, unlimited SMS in the US and Canada, route optimization, and advanced analytics. The upgrade is the clear choice when the free tier's seat or usage ceilings become obstacles; businesses outside the stated SMS regions should not assume unlimited messaging applies to them.

Platforms

CrewNest runs on Android, iOS, and the web. Its PWA approach avoids an app-store download for phone access, while offline mode is included with Free Forever.

Who it's for

CrewNest is most compelling for small snow-removal businesses that need event documentation, flexible snow billing, and dispatch alongside ordinary field-service quoting and scheduling. Solo operators can test the workflow on the free plan; teams needing multiple users, more estimates, or route optimization are better matched to Pro. It is less suitable for an operation that needs a larger team on the free tier or depends on SMS outside the US and Canada.

Pros and cons

Pros

Snow event logs and job-linked weather notes keep service documentation connected to work.
Per-push, per-visit, per-inch, and seasonal billing accommodate several common snow-service charging structures.
The free plan includes scheduling, customer management, basic invoicing, and offline PWA mode for one user.
Pro removes key usage and team limits and adds route optimization and a booking portal.

Cons

Free Forever is restricted to one user, three estimates, ten satellite measurements, and 50 SMS messages monthly.
Pro's unlimited SMS coverage is explicitly limited to the US and Canada.
CrewNest identifies itself as early-stage, which may make it a less comfortable choice for buyers prioritizing an established product.

Alternatives

Consider Pinstripe Fleet if you want a freemium option on iOS and the web. Plowdesk is worth comparing if unlimited free users and customers matter: its free Operator plan includes up to three storm routes, manual customer notifications, and Venmo payment tracking, though its route allowance is explicit. Choose Autopilot if you need broader platform coverage including desktop operating systems and an API, and are prepared for a paid plan starting at 49.00 USD per month for one user. Icey is another free-plan option for iOS and Android. Snow Removal CRM by ServeHub offers a free plan across web and iOS. CrewTracker may suit buyers looking for a paid property-based plan, with its 1-75 Properties tier at 200.00 USD per month. Wintertrace is a free, web-based alternative. FieldBased is a paid option with a free trial and Android, iOS, and web support; its Starter plan is 29.00 USD per month for one user.

Verdict

CrewNest is a strong match for a small snow contractor who wants documentation, dispatch, and snow-specific billing in the same field-service workflow. Its free plan provides a low-commitment start, and Pro removes the seat and usage constraints for teams at 29.99 USD per month. Look elsewhere if the free tier must serve multiple staff, or if you need unlimited SMS beyond the US and Canada.
