Overview

Procore is a cloud-based platform for managing construction projects from planning and preparation through building and operations. It is best suited to owners, general contractors, specialty contractors and other stakeholders who need office and field teams working from a shared project system. Its broad workflow coverage and unlimited contract users make it a serious option for multi-party projects, but custom annual pricing makes it harder to assess cost before requesting an estimate.

Key features

Procore brings project execution together across budgeting, bid management, estimating, contracts, scheduling, BIM, submittals, daily logs, forms, inspections, observations, quality and safety, financials, invoicing, punch lists, photos and videos, analytics and resource planning. That range can reduce the need to split project work across separate tools, while connecting field and office teams for real-time visibility. The breadth will matter most to organizations coordinating complex projects; buyers seeking a narrowly focused tool may not need so much workflow coverage.

Role-based access controls let administrators set permissions for people inside and outside the organization, including restricting access to sensitive modules such as budgets. That is useful when owners, contractors and other stakeholders need to collaborate without sharing every project detail. Contracts include unlimited users and data storage, along with support and product enhancements at no additional cost, avoiding seat and storage caps as teams grow.

The integration catalog includes more than 500 integrations and apps, including Oracle NetSuite, QuickBooks Connector, Sage, Workday, Yardi, MRI and Acumatica. Procore APIs can pass information in one or two directions, which gives teams options for connecting systems. Procore states that it complies with ISO 27001:2013 and SSAE18 SOC 2 and adheres to GDPR, CCPA and the Australian Privacy Principles. Its Procore for Government offering is FedRAMP Class C Certified, though only a limited number of third-party marketplace apps are currently approved for that offering.

Pricing

Procore uses a custom subscription, billed as an upfront annual fee based on the products selected and Annual Construction Volume (ACV). Contact Procore for a customized estimate. The contract includes unlimited users, unlimited data storage, support and product enhancements during the contract, so there are no per-seat or storage caps to weigh against the annual fee. The trade-off is that buyers need a tailored quote to judge affordability; there is no free plan for evaluating the platform at no cost.

Procore also offers onboarding and implementation services. That can help organizations adopting a platform across project teams, but buyers should consider the implementation effort alongside the annual commitment when deciding whether its broad scope fits their needs.

Platforms

Procore is available through a web browser and Android and iOS apps, with an API for integrations. Browser users automatically receive the latest version, while mobile apps give field teams access away from a desk.

Who it's for

Procore is a strong fit for construction owners, general contractors, specialty contractors and project stakeholders who need shared workflows across field and office teams, granular access controls, and room to add users without increasing seat costs. Its extensive capabilities and integration catalog suit organizations coordinating work across multiple functions and systems. It is less compelling for a small team that needs only a limited set of project tools or wants a free plan and a clear price before engaging a vendor.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited users and storage under contract remove seat and data caps as project teams expand.
Pros: A broad set of construction workflows, from bids and budgets to safety and invoicing, supports coordination across project stages.
Pros: More than 500 integrations and APIs that support one- or two-way data transfer give teams flexibility in connecting business systems.
Pros: Role-based controls can limit sensitive modules such as budgets for external as well as internal collaborators.
Cons: Custom upfront annual pricing tied to selected products and ACV makes cost harder to compare without a quote.
Cons: There is no free plan, so teams cannot rely on a free tier for ongoing use.
Cons: The government offering has limited approved third-party marketplace apps, which narrows integration choices for those customers.
