Overview

CompeteTracker is a web app for Shopify merchants who want competitor prices to inform their own pricing decisions. It is a good fit for stores that want structured recommendations but prefer to approve changes themselves; merchants seeking unattended repricing should look elsewhere.

Key features

Automatic monitoring follows competitor prices, products and promotions across websites, with full pricing history and real-time refresh. An auto-populated competitor database and competitor discovery can reduce manual URL entry, while instant alerts flag price changes. Hybrid catalog matching connects a merchant’s products with comparable competitor listings and excludes out-of-stock items from recommendations. That context is useful, but merchants should still review the matches behind a proposed change.

Pricing controls include matching the lowest price, targeting the median or beating the lowest by a configured percentage. A price floor and maximum change per cycle help constrain those strategies. Recommendations show matched competitors and pricing anchors, and users approve changes per variant before anything changes. One-click Shopify updates and an audit trail support a reviewable workflow; prices are automatically normalized to the store’s currency.

The homepage advertises a two-minute setup and no credit card for the free plan. The Shopify listing says the app accesses device and activity data, store-owner contact details, products, inventory, collections and the last 60 days of order history. The homepage describes personal support, and the Shopify listing identifies Compete Tracker as the app’s support provider.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and monitors 3 competitors. It is a low-commitment way for a small store to try competitor-based pricing, but three rivals may be too narrow for a broader market view.

Starter costs 19.99 USD per month, with 10 competitors monitored. Annual billing is $180/year and saves 25%. This is the more practical step up for stores that need a wider comparison set without the Pro allowance.

Pro costs 49.99 USD per month and monitors 25 competitors. Annual billing is $480/year and saves 20%. It suits merchants who need broader competitor coverage; the higher monthly cost is harder to justify if a smaller monitoring set is enough. The plan facts give competitor limits but no seat or quota terms beyond those limits.

Platforms

CompeteTracker is available on the web and is built around Shopify price updates.

Who it's for

Choose CompeteTracker if you run a Shopify store and want competitor monitoring tied to configurable recommendations, with per-variant approval and safeguards before price changes. It is less suitable if you need a broad multi-platform shopping comparison tool or want prices changed without merchant approval.

Pros and cons

Pro: Per-variant approval, price floors and change limits keep recommendations under merchant control.
Pro: History, alerts, promotions tracking and catalog matching add context to competitor prices.
Con: The free plan monitors only 3 competitors, limiting its usefulness for stores comparing a crowded market.
Con: Shopify-specific updates make it a narrower fit for merchants who do not sell through Shopify.

Alternatives

For a wider general-purpose price comparison tool across mobile, browser and desktop, consider ShopSavvy, whose free plan includes price history and price-drop alerts. If your priority is a defined monthly checking allowance, VantageDash offers a free Scout plan with 2 competitors, 50 products and 5 price checks per month, alongside basic matching and trend analytics. Pricefy is another option for stores that want a free tier with up to 50 SKUs, 5 competitors and daily price updates.

For a free allowance of up to 20 competitors/sites and 20 products, Priceva may be a better fit. Retailgrid offers a free tier with up to 500 grid rows, manual data import and 7-day retention. SimplePriceMonitor may suit a small monitoring setup: its free plan covers 5 products, 3 competitors per product, daily checks, email alerts and 7-day history. SpotRival offers a free plan with 3 monitors, daily checks, email and browser alerts, and price history. For a one-off competitive pricing snapshot rather than ongoing monitoring, Scout provides a free report covering a website and 3–5 competitors.

For a broader category comparison, see Competitor Price Monitoring Software.

Verdict

CompeteTracker is a strong fit for Shopify merchants who want competitor-informed pricing without surrendering final control: its per-variant approvals and configurable guardrails are the clearest reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need a non-Shopify workflow or fully automatic repricing, and expect to move beyond Free if three competitors are not enough.
