Overview

Founded in 2012 by developers Jaime Jorge and João Caxaria, Codacy is based in Lisbon, Portugal. The service combines code review, quality checks and security analysis, and is available on the web and through extensions. It runs on Amazon Web Services; data sent to or from its infrastructure is encrypted in transit using TLS. Codacy states that it is GDPR compliant and has SOC 2 Type II compliance.

Key features

Review and coding standards

AI Reviewer provides pull request summaries and fix suggestions, and automatically detects false positives. This can help reviewers focus on substantive changes, though teams should still assess suggestions themselves. Shared coding standards across 49 languages are available on Team, a meaningful distinction for organizations that need consistent rules across contributors.

Security analysis and integrations

Codacy lists SAST, software composition analysis, secret scanning, infrastructure-as-code scanning, DAST and container image scanning. That range makes it relevant to teams looking to consolidate several kinds of security checks, rather than adopt a tool for only one analysis type. Team integrates with GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, Jira and Slack. Developer includes VSCode, JetBrains and Cursor integrations; the feature comparison also names Windsurf for its IDE extension.

Pricing

Developer is free at 0.00 USD per free, billed per dev/mth. It includes an IDE plugin, supports 38 programming languages and integrates with VSCode, JetBrains and Cursor. That makes it a useful starting point for individual developers, but it does not include Team's shared standards across 49 languages.

Team costs 18.00 USD per year per dev/mth with yearly billing, or 21.00 USD per month per dev/mth with monthly billing. It supports up to 30 developers and 100 private repositories, with unlimited lines of code; open-source projects are free forever. The annual option is the lower-priced choice for teams able to commit to yearly billing, while monthly billing costs more but avoids that billing cadence. A 14-day free trial requires no credit card.

Business has custom pricing and is aimed at organizations that need unlimited private projects, a priority scan queue, a dedicated customer success manager and premium support. Its higher-tier support and project capacity may matter as teams scale, but smaller teams can start with Team's defined repository and developer limits.

Platforms

Codacy is cloud-only, with web access and extensions. Teams requiring self-hosted deployment should consider a different product.

Who it's for

Codacy is a strong fit for engineering teams that want AI-assisted pull request feedback, broad security checks and shared standards alongside integrations with common code-hosting and collaboration services. Individual developers can use the free IDE plugin. It is less suitable for organizations that require on-premises deployment or need unlimited private projects without moving to Business.

Pros and cons

Pros: AI pull request summaries and fix suggestions are paired with automated false-positive detection.
Pros: Team combines six listed security scanning capabilities with shared standards across 49 languages.
Pros: Team includes unlimited lines of code and is free forever for open-source projects.
Cons: Team is capped at 30 developers and 100 private repositories; unlimited private projects require Business.
Cons: Cloud-only deployment rules it out for teams that need to host the service themselves.
Cons: Developer supports 38 languages and does not include Team's shared coding standards.

Verdict

Choose Codacy if your engineering team wants pull request assistance and a broad set of security checks, with shared standards and repository integrations on Team. Its main trade-offs are cloud-only deployment and Team's 100-private-repository ceiling; teams that exceed that capacity need Business, while organizations that require self-hosting should choose another tool.
