Overview

Zenfolio is a photography platform for building a website and client galleries, then organizing, sharing, and selling image and video work. It suits photographers who want presentation, proofing, and commerce in one service, especially those whose work benefits from print fulfillment or online client payments. Its tiered storage and broad workflow tools are balanced by per-order and download fees, while the desktop uploader has specific operating-system requirements.

Key features

Each plan includes a customizable website, custom domain, client galleries, and proofing, so photographers can present work and share it with clients without separating those tasks across services. Portfolio analytics add a way to assess site activity. Secure geo-distributed backup, flexible access controls for original files, password-protected galleries, watermarking, and right-click and drag protection give photographers several ways to manage image access.

Zenfolio supports selling prints, digital downloads, and video through websites and galleries. Clients can pay online with Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, and integrated lab fulfillment includes Miller’s, Mpix, Bay Photo, Fujifilm, and other partners. That breadth is useful for photographers who want print orders fulfilled through connected labs; the 7% commerce fee per order and separate digital-download charges need to be included in the cost calculation.

Workflow options range from a Lightroom Classic plugin for uploading, publishing edits, and replacing images to a desktop uploader that can preserve folder structure. AI-assisted gallery creation and tagging, plus PhotoRefine.ai for grouping, rating, and culling, address image organization. BookMe handles bookings, availability syncing, invoicing, and payment collection, and can be added to another website; it costs $10/mo on Basic and Professional but is included with Advanced.

All plans include 24/7 customer support. Zenfolio describes two-factor authentication and says it does not sell data generated by or held on behalf of photographers, or data it generates.

Pricing

Zenfolio has no free plan, but offers a free trial. Paid plans start at $9 per month, and annual subscriptions have reduced monthly rates; an annual promotion can save up to 50% through September 30, 2026. The stated monthly plan prices are $9, $23, and $40 per month respectively.

Basic — $9/month: 15GB of storage, approximately 4,500 photos, up to 500 SMS per month, and a $10/mo booking and scheduling add-on. It is the entry point for photographers who need a site and galleries, but its storage is the tightest and booking adds cost.
Professional — $23/month: 150GB, approximately 60,000 photos, up to 2,500 SMS per month, two team members, and up to five uses of Volume Wizard and QR Code Workflow. Booking remains a $10/mo add-on. This tier makes more sense for larger libraries or small teams, though it still charges extra for scheduling.
Advanced — $40/month: unlimited JPEG storage, 150GB of video storage, 4K video support, up to 5,000 SMS per month, 15 team members, unlimited Volume Wizard and QR Code Workflow uses, and booking and scheduling included. It is the clearest fit for high-volume or team workflows, but costs substantially more than Basic.

Video formats include MP4 and MOV. Digital downloads carry an additional fee of $0.09 per single file or $0.99 for a full gallery or bulk download. These charges are on top of the 7% commerce fee per order, so frequent download sales can materially affect earnings. No refund policy is stated. The stated prices do not establish a separate renewal term.

Platforms

Zenfolio is available on the web, iOS, and macOS, with a desktop uploader for Mac and Windows. The current uploader requires macOS 11 or newer and supports Apple Silicon Macs; on Windows it requires version 2004 or newer. That may rule out older computers from the desktop upload workflow, even though the service is also web-based.

Who it's for

Portrait and wedding, sports and events, commercial, and landscape and nature photographers are all within Zenfolio’s intended audience. It is strongest for photographers who want a branded site, client proofing, gallery sales, and connected lab fulfillment together. Those who only need a simple portfolio, or who expect to sell many low-priced digital files, should weigh the commerce and download fees carefully.

Pros and cons

Pro: Website, custom domain, galleries, and proofing are included across plans, giving client-facing photographers a joined presentation and delivery workflow.
Pro: Lab fulfillment and multiple online payment options support print and digital sales without requiring one payment method or lab.
Pro: Advanced combines unlimited JPEG storage with booking and scheduling, which can suit established studios managing large collections and appointments.
Con: The 7% order fee plus per-download charges can erode margins for photographers with frequent digital sales.
Con: Basic has 15GB and Professional has 150GB, so growing libraries may push users toward the $40/month Advanced tier for unlimited JPEG storage.
Con: The desktop uploader excludes older systems below macOS 11 or Windows 10 version 2004.

Verdict

Choose Zenfolio if you are a working photographer who wants a custom-domain site, client proofing, gallery sales, and lab fulfillment in one platform. Its strongest case is the combination of client workflow and commerce, with Advanced adding substantial storage and booking capacity. Look elsewhere if a free portfolio is essential, if your computer cannot run the current uploader, or if sales fees make digital downloads central to your business.
