Overview

FirstSlate spans a production job from client intake and proposal drafting through call sheets, crew paperwork, delivery, invoicing and payment. That breadth is its clearest advantage: producers can keep client-facing and production work in one service rather than assembling separate tools for each stage.

Clients and crew can use shared links without creating FirstSlate accounts or passwords, which removes a sign-up hurdle for occasional collaborators. The Free plan includes many core workflows, but its caps of five active projects, 20 archived projects and three clients make it better for a small or occasional workload than a growing roster.

Key features

Proposals and production workflows

The AI assistant drafts proposal content from a project brief using Google Gemini. This can help turn a brief into a starting draft, while the proposal still needs the producer’s judgment. Proposals, e-signatures, invoices, call sheets, crew management, the client portal and teleprompter are available on every plan, so Free users do not lose these central production tools when the trial ends.

Signed documents receive a tamper-evident record with signer details, timestamp, IP address, browser and a SHA-256 fingerprint. That creates a concrete signature record; it does not change the Free plan’s project and client limits.

Client payments and integrations

Clients can pay invoices by card or ACH through Stripe, and FirstSlate says it charges no platform fees. Online invoice payments are included with Pro, so a Free user can issue invoices but must upgrade to enable this payment feature.

Pro and Studio workspace owners can connect to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other MCP clients to read data and create drafts. That integration is useful for teams already working with MCP-compatible assistants, but it is not included in Free. FirstSlate identifies Supabase for database and authentication, Stripe for payments, Resend for transactional email and Google Gemini for AI. It says encrypted daily database backups are stored separately from the primary system.

Pricing

FirstSlate is freemium, and every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial without a credit card. After the trial, the account reverts to Free unless upgraded. That gives prospective users a short way to try Pro features, but continued access to its higher limits and online payments requires a paid plan.

Free — 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever. Includes five active projects, three clients, intake forms, proposals and contracts, invoices and crew call sheets, with no credit card required. The broader Free-plan caps are 20 archived projects; proposals, e-signatures, invoices, call sheets, crew management, client portal and teleprompter work on every plan. This is the sensible starting point for a solo producer with a small client list, but not for a busy pipeline.
Pro — 190.00 USD per year, billed $15.83/mo equivalent annually. Adds unlimited projects and clients, online invoice payments and branding on every client page. It is the practical step up for producers who have outgrown Free’s caps or want clients to pay online. The founding price is limited to the first 200 producers.
Studio — 66.00 USD per year, billed annually at $790/yr. Includes everything in Pro, three team seats, up to 10 additional seats at $150/yr each and priority support. It is aimed at small agencies needing multiple team accounts; the extra-seat charge matters as the team grows.

Pro is the stated paid entry point at $15.83/mo equivalent when billed annually. Studio’s stated annual total is $790/yr, so it is a substantial step up from Pro for teams that need seats and priority support rather than just higher project limits.

Platforms

FirstSlate is a web service. Its account-free client and crew links make it easier to involve people who do not need their own platform login, while producers manage the workflow in the web app.

Who it's for

FirstSlate is best suited to independent video producers and creative agencies coordinating client-facing proposals with production logistics and billing. A solo producer with no more than three clients and five active projects can start on Free; someone needing unlimited work, online invoice payments or client-page branding has a clear reason to choose Pro. Studio makes more sense when a team needs three or more seats and priority support.

It is a weaker fit for someone seeking only a narrowly focused proposal tool, or for teams that need more seats without additional annual cost. Its advantage is the production workflow around the proposal, not proposal drafting in isolation.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad production coverage. Intake, proposals, crew paperwork, teleprompter, delivery and invoicing sit within one workflow, which suits video work better than a proposal-only setup.
Pro: Core tools remain on Free. Proposals, e-signatures, invoices, call sheets, crew management, client portal and teleprompter work on every plan, so the free tier’s main constraint is capacity rather than feature access.
Pro: Low-friction client and crew access. Shared links do not require recipients to create accounts or passwords.
Con: Free has tight capacity limits. Five active projects and three clients can quickly constrain a producer with a fuller calendar or roster.
Con: Online payments are paid-only. Free includes invoices but not card or ACH payment through Stripe.
Con: Studio seats add cost. The plan includes three seats, with up to 10 more at $150/yr each.

Alternatives

For proposal-focused tools or different team workflows, consider AI Proposal Generators. Proposal Expert is a web freemium option with a free tier capped at three proposals per month, 25 AI credits and three e-signatures per month, making it a more constrained starting point if proposal volume is modest. Effie is a free web option for readers who want a no-cost alternative.

ClientPoint offers a $42.00 USD per month Small Business plan with appointment scheduling, branded virtual meetings, e-signatures, document sharing and video recording; choose it when those client-meeting features matter more than FirstSlate’s production workflow. Proposar has a free plan for three proposals per month and three templates, a fit for low-volume proposal work. Handoff is a paid option with a $119.00 USD per month Flex plan billed annually, 50 AI usage credits per month, one custom pricing catalog and two users included; it suits readers looking for that pricing-catalog workflow rather than FirstSlate’s video-production span.

ProposalGrid offers a free web plan with five active documents, two AI proposal drafts per month and three saved blocks, a limited free option for proposal drafting. AdvisorPitch is another paid option with a free trial. Proposify is a paid alternative with a Basic plan at $29.00 USD per month, 10 sends per month and unlimited documents; consider it when proposal sending is the priority rather than production coordination.

Verdict

FirstSlate is a strong choice for independent video producers and small creative agencies that want proposals, production logistics, client access and billing in one web service. Its Free plan exposes the core workflow, while Pro removes the project and client caps and enables online invoice payments. Look elsewhere if you need only a proposal tool, or if Studio’s seat pricing does not suit your team.
