Overview

Hadeda is utility billing software for property managers handling shared buildings and multi-unit estates. It is best suited to South African operators who need to allocate water use to residents and collect payments in one workflow. Its clearest strength is connecting metering, resident statements and collections; its current scope is narrower than its longer-term utility ambitions.

Founded in Cape Town in 2018, Hadeda pairs a manager portal for tenants, meters, tariffs, bills and payments with a resident app for meter data, statements and in-app payment. Submetering supports individual billing, including for commercial properties.

Key features

Resident statements and collections

Residents can see meter data, receive one statement for rent and utilities, and pay through the app. Postpaid billing is live, with monthly payment due on the 1st, and online collections are supported. Combining charges and payment access can reduce friction for residents and give managers a more unified billing process.

Metering, allocation and reporting

Hadeda supports ultrasonic, smart-mechanical and electromagnetic meters for domestic, zonal and bulk use, including Kamstrup and Axioma ultrasonic meters in its current fleet. That range suits properties with different metering arrangements, while submetering makes it possible to allocate usage to individual units.

Monthly reports cover readings, usage, charges, meter health and bulk-versus-unit totals, with Excel and CSV export. Those exports are useful for property teams that need to work with billing data outside the portal.

Leak alerts and usage monitoring

The platform checks meter readings for leak patterns and unusual usage, and can flag bill increases. Usage charts span hourly through yearly views, helping managers examine consumption at different time scales. Remote shutoff is possible when smart valves are installed, so it depends on compatible property hardware rather than software alone.

Connectivity, integrations and service limits

Hadeda supports Sigfox, LoRaWAN and fixed-radio deployments, and offers third-party API integration with property systems. These options can help fit the platform into existing infrastructure, though meter transmissions, connectivity or third-party system interruptions can delay readings or lead to corrections.

Water metering is live. Electricity and gas metering, as well as prepaid billing, are still rolling out; properties that require those capabilities now should look elsewhere or confirm readiness before committing.

Pricing

Hadeda is paid software with custom pricing. No plan breakdown or seat, property or unit allowance is provided, so operators should request a quote for their portfolio and confirm what is included.

Platforms

Hadeda supports Android, iOS and the web. Residents can use the mobile app, while managers have a portal for property-wide billing and meter administration.

Who it's for

Hadeda is aimed at South African estates, body corporates, property managers, owners and municipalities managing buildings with many units. It is a stronger fit for operators seeking water submetering, resident billing and payment collection than for those whose immediate needs center on electricity, gas or prepaid billing.

Hadeda says it uses Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud, aligns its privacy practices with POPIA, and may store data outside South Africa. Users may request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information by email. Support is available by email and phone or WhatsApp; email replies are expected within one business day, while phone support runs Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 SAST.

Pros and cons

Pros: Combines meter data, rent-and-utility statements and in-app payments, giving residents a single place to review and settle charges.
Pros: Supports multiple meter types and radio options, with monthly reports and spreadsheet exports for property teams.
Pros: Leak and unusual-usage alerts can surface problems, with remote shutoff possible when smart valves are installed.
Cons: Electricity and gas metering and prepaid billing are still rolling out, limiting its fit for properties that need them today.
Cons: Custom pricing makes it harder to compare costs without requesting a quote.
Cons: Readings may be delayed or corrected when transmissions, connectivity or third-party systems are interrupted.

Verdict

Choose Hadeda if you manage a South African multi-unit property and want water submetering tied to resident statements, payments and usage monitoring. Its practical appeal is the joined-up billing workflow and reporting; look elsewhere if you need electricity or gas metering or prepaid billing in place now, or if you need a public price to assess fit before contacting a vendor.
