Overview

Chargebee RevRec automates revenue recognition and month-end close for businesses with recurring, variable, credit-based, or hybrid pricing. It is best suited to Chargebee Billing customers who need detailed revenue records, reporting, and accounting-system connections.

Its strongest case is a workflow that connects contract-level revenue detail to summarized general-ledger entries; its main trade-off is that access is limited to Chargebee Billing customers and custom-priced.

Key features

RevRec follows the five-step revenue recognition models in ASC 606 and IFRS 15. It supports multiple allocation methods and performance obligations, which makes it relevant to teams handling more than straightforward recurring subscriptions.

The revenue subledger keeps contract, transaction, and line-item detail, then can post summarized journal entries to the general ledger. Deferred revenue waterfalls, live dashboards, and custom reports can drill down to those underlying records. That combination helps finance teams move from period-level reporting to the transactions behind a balance.

Direct connections named for Chargebee, Stripe, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, and Xero sync invoice and billing data on a 24-hour cycle. Teams can also use REST APIs and webhooks for custom integrations and workflow automation. The daily sync is a practical fit for close processes that can work on that cadence, but it is not a real-time feed.

Chargebee lists SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, Level 1 PCI compliance, and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 among its compliance certificates. A dedicated support channel is available for product help.

Pricing

RevRec has no free plan, and both plans are available only to Chargebee Billing customers. Prices are custom pricing, so the user caps and feature differences are more useful for initial plan selection than a public price comparison.

Plan	Included	Best fit
Performance	Up to 5 users; point-in-time and ratable recognition; GAAP revenue reports; journal entry mapping	Smaller finance teams that need core recognition and reporting workflows.
Enterprise	Up to 10 users; multi-entity support; advanced revenue rules and SSP configurations; multi-source integration and direct journal entry posting	Teams with multiple entities or more complex revenue rules and posting needs.

Performance includes point-in-time and ratable recognition, but contract modifications and usage-based recognition are Enterprise features. Teams that need those capabilities should account for the higher-tier requirement; the user limit also makes Enterprise the better fit for teams of six to ten, while neither plan's stated cap covers larger groups.

Platforms

RevRec is available on web and through an API. Its named ERP connections include Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, and Xero.

Who it's for

RevRec is a credible shortlist choice for finance teams already using Chargebee Billing, especially those needing ASC 606 and IFRS 15 workflows, drill-down reporting, and general-ledger posting. It is less suitable for businesses that do not use Chargebee Billing, need a free entry point, or require a public price before evaluating software.

Pros and cons

Pros: Supports recurring, variable, credit-based, and hybrid revenue models, giving teams with mixed pricing structures one recognition workflow.
Pros: Keeps contract-to-line-item detail behind reports and summarized journal entries, aiding investigation of reported revenue.
Pros: Offers both direct integrations and REST API/webhook customization, covering standard accounting connections as well as tailored workflows.
Cons: Plans require Chargebee Billing, ruling it out for teams using another billing platform.
Cons: Prices are custom, and there is no free plan, so teams cannot assess cost through a self-serve tier.
Cons: The 24-hour integration sync is less suited to workflows that depend on continuously refreshed billing data.
Cons: Contract modifications and usage-based recognition require Enterprise, while Performance is limited to five users.

Verdict

Choose Chargebee RevRec if your business already runs on Chargebee Billing and needs standards-based recognition with detailed subledger reporting and journal-entry workflows. Its integrations and revenue-model coverage are compelling for that audience, but teams outside the Chargebee ecosystem or unwilling to evaluate a custom-priced product should look elsewhere.
