Overview

The Free plan includes animation, rigging, physics-based tools, inbetweening and animation unbaking, so artists can explore the central workflow without a subscription. That breadth is useful for learning and personal projects, but the non-commercial restriction and single export format draw a firm line between exploration and paid work.

Cascadeur is designed to create character animation without motion capture, rather than capture movement itself. Its Root Motion Tool, introduced in Cascadeur 2026.1, uses motion signatures from reference animation to transfer motion style. That adds an AI-assisted way to shape movement while keeping animation creation the focus.

Key features

Animation and rigging: Both are included in Free, along with physics-based tools, inbetweening and animation unbaking. This makes the free tier a substantial way to learn the software, but it does not permit commercial use.
Export formats: Free exports only CASC. Paid plans add FBX and DAE (Collada), with USD and GLTF/GLB also included in the paid export comparison. That broader interchange is important for productions that need to move animation between applications; the free export cap can rule it out for those pipelines.
Application workflows: Official documentation covers Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine and Daz Studio workflows, including FBX and Collada exchange. Unreal Engine Live Link streams animation to Unreal in real time, but its plugin requires a separate manual download and installation.
Hardware and sign-in: Minimum requirements include 4 GB of memory, OpenGL 4.1 and a 64-bit multi-core Intel or AMD processor on Windows or Linux; macOS requires an M-series processor. Users must sign in after installation, using Google or a Cascadeur account.
Support: Cascadeur points users to its FAQ, documentation, bug reporting, tutorials, video lessons and Discord community. Paid support scales up: Indie includes priority support, while Pro includes dedicated chat support.

Pricing

Cascadeur uses a freemium model, with a 14-day trial for Pro and Teams. The monthly and annual prices differ substantially, and annual plans include access to perpetual license builds; readers should weigh that term against the longer commitment.

Free — 0.00 USD per free, free forever: Includes animation and rigging tools for non-commercial use, with exports limited to .casc. It is the right starting point for learning or personal work, but not for commercial projects or pipelines that require FBX, DAE, USD or GLTF.
Indie — $19 per month, or $8 per month billed annually: Allows use when revenue is less than $100k per year, adds FBX and DAE export, and includes priority support. The annual plan gives access to perpetual license builds. It suits smaller commercial practices within the revenue limit, though its listed export formats are narrower than the broader paid comparison.
Pro — $49 per month, or $33 per month billed annually: Covers commercial use with no limits and adds retargeting, environment interaction, scene linking and dedicated chat support. It is the better fit for professional work needing those capabilities; a 14-day trial is available, and the annual plan includes access to perpetual license builds.
Teams — $49 per user per month, or $33 per user per month billed annually: Covers 2–6 seats and adds dedicated Discord chat, centralized user management and role-based permissions. Teams is for shared studio use rather than an individual license; it also offers a 14-day trial and annual access to perpetual license builds.

Platforms

Cascadeur supports Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS. Its desktop hardware requirements make processor and graphics compatibility worth checking before installation, particularly the M-series requirement for macOS and OpenGL 4.1 support.

Who it's for

Cascadeur suits character animators who want to craft movement without motion capture and benefit from physics-based tools, with a documented path to applications including Blender, Unity and Unreal Engine. Free makes sense for non-commercial learning; Indie fits qualifying small commercial work that needs FBX or DAE export. Pro is a stronger fit for unrestricted commercial use and its added production features, while Teams is aimed at groups needing seat management and role-based permissions.

It is not the right choice for someone primarily seeking a motion-capture service, or for commercial work on Free. Teams requiring exports beyond CASC will need a paid plan, and those wanting the additional Pro features or dedicated chat support will need to step above Indie.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free tier includes animation, rigging, physics-based tools, inbetweening and animation unbaking, giving non-commercial users a meaningful way to work with the core toolset.
Pro: Paid exports span CASC, FBX, DAE, USD and GLTF/GLB, making Cascadeur more adaptable to varied application workflows than the free export cap allows.
Pro: Real-time Unreal Engine Live Link and documented workflows for Blender, Unity and Daz Studio support integration into broader 3D pipelines.
Con: Free is non-commercial and exports only .casc, a consequential barrier for professional use and interchange.
Con: The Unreal Live Link plugin needs manual download and installation, adding setup work to an otherwise real-time workflow.
Con: Teams starts at two seats, while the per-user price makes it a poor fit for a solo animator seeking shared-workspace features.

Alternatives

If the main need is converting footage into motion data rather than animating without motion capture, consider Mocai: its free plan allows one minute of footage per month, clips up to 15 seconds and a single person, with downloads in all formats.

Move AI is another freemium option for motion capture, with a free allowance of 30 credits that do not expire and videos up to 30 seconds. Choose it when that credit-based footage workflow is a better match than Cascadeur’s animation-first approach.

Rokoko Studio offers a free Starter plan with 30 seconds per month of Vision AI video processing, five Studio imports per month and one month of cloud storage. It is worth comparing when those motion-processing allowances align with the project.

FreeMoCap is a free option with no subscriptions, licenses or hidden fees. Consider it when avoiding recurring software costs is the priority.

NANSENSE Studio is another option to compare for motion-capture workflows.

DeepMotion Animate 3D offers a free plan with 25 credits per month, clips up to 20 seconds, two people, three custom characters, 1080p output and a 100 MB upload limit. Choose it when those web-based processing constraints suit the job.

Plask Motion is a web-based alternative whose free plan has a 15-second daily limit and 1 GB of storage. It may suit users who want a browser-based option within those limits.

Autodesk Flow Studio has a free web plan with 300 credits per month, AI motion capture, Live Action Easy, and Maya and Blender scene export. It is a relevant alternative when those capture and scene-export features take precedence.

Verdict

Cascadeur is a strong choice for character animators who want to create motion without capture, with rigging and physics-based tools in the same application and integrations for established 3D workflows. Start with Free for non-commercial learning, choose Indie for qualifying small commercial work, and look to Pro or Teams for unrestricted use or studio controls. Look elsewhere if your central need is motion capture, or if the free tier’s commercial and export limits do not fit your work.
