Overview

IPQualityScore Fraud Prevention is a risk-scoring service for businesses screening activity across user journeys. It is best suited to teams that need configurable checks across more than payments, and can build their workflows around usage-based lookup limits. Its breadth is useful, but plan quotas and the credit rules deserve close attention.

Key features

IPQS scores activity in real time using more than 300 data points, with machine-learning models and risk analysis details to inform decisions. It covers users, payments, logins, registrations, and clicks, with tools for IP reputation, bot detection, email risk, phone validation, and device fingerprinting. That makes it a broader fit than a payment-only screen; adjustable scoring and custom rules also let businesses tune thresholds to their audiences.

Device fingerprinting profiles device and behavior patterns to help identify duplicate accounts, through web or a mobile SDK. Teams can integrate by API or submit CSV files in the dashboard. Integrations include WordPress and WooCommerce, Shopify, Stripe, Salesforce, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Splunk, and Palo Alto Cortex XSOAR. On-premise IP reputation and email verification database engines provide a local deployment option.

Usage planning needs to account for what counts: each valid Proxy Detection, Email Verification, or Device Fingerprinting request uses a lookup credit, while stats, postback, and reporting API data do not. The service is omnichannel and supports Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted use. IPQS says it has worked in fraud detection and cybersecurity since 2011 and has completed SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701 certifications; current reports are available on request.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per month and includes 10 custom rules, 1,000 lookups per month, 35 per day, and three CSV uploads per day. It is a practical way to assess the workflow or handle modest volume, but both daily and monthly caps can constrain ongoing screening.

Startup costs 99.00 USD per month and raises the allowance to 100 custom rules, 5,000 monthly lookups, and 250 per day. This is the entry paid tier for teams needing more capacity, though it has no listed transaction scoring or per-second rate. SMB Basic costs 499.00 USD per month, with 1,000 rules, 10,000 monthly lookups, 20 lookups per second, and transaction scoring. It suits businesses whose volume or payment workflows justify the substantial step up from Startup.

SMB+ costs 999.00 USD per month and brings 5,000 rules, 75,000 monthly lookups, a 99.5% SLA, address verification, reverse identity checks, and residential proxy detection. Enterprise has custom pricing and includes 25,000 rules, custom monthly lookups, a 99.9% SLA, 25 alert signals, and unlimited CSV uploads up to the monthly lookup limit. Enterprise also includes integration assistance and support replies seven days per week, making it the stronger fit for organizations that need tailored capacity and operational support. IPQS offers a free trial; no trial length is stated.

Platforms

IPQualityScore supports Android, iOS, web, API, and self-hosted deployments. Its mix of API integration, dashboard CSV scoring, mobile SDK fingerprinting, and local database engines accommodates different technical setups, though on-premise options cover IP reputation and email verification rather than every tool.

Who it's for

IPQS describes the service for SMB and enterprise customers across industries and regions. It is particularly suitable for teams screening several types of activity and able to set rules, monitor lookup consumption, and select a tier to match volume. Businesses seeking a chargeback guarantee should look elsewhere: IPQS does not offer one.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage across users, payments, logins, registrations, and clicks, with multiple fraud signals in one scoring service.
Pros: Custom rules, API and CSV workflows, integrations, mobile SDK fingerprinting, and selected on-premise engines give teams deployment choices.
Pros: Enterprise adds a 99.9% SLA, tailored lookup volume, integration assistance, and seven-day support replies.
Cons: Monthly lookup and daily caps can limit lower tiers, and eligible requests consume credits, so screening volume needs active planning.
Cons: Paid tiers rise from 99.00 USD per month to 499.00 USD and 999.00 USD per month before custom-priced Enterprise.
Cons: There is no chargeback guarantee.

Alternatives

For payment-focused comparisons, browse Payment Fraud Detection Software. Choose FraudLabs Pro if its free Micro tier's 500 monthly queries and five validation rules suit a smaller operation; it also has a free plan and trial. Stripe Radar is a better fit for businesses on standard Stripe payments pricing that want its included AI fraud prevention for card payments and card testing without an additional charge.

Ravelin offers a tailored platform based on business goals, risk appetite, and setup, with pricing by contact. Vesta is another paid alternative. DataVisor Fraud Platform is a custom enterprise option with demo requests, while Sift Payment Protection and Mastercard Decision Intelligence use contact-based pricing. Braintree ACH Direct Debit is for eligible merchants using US ACH: its standard schedule is 0.75 USD per transaction, capped at $5.00.

Verdict

Choose IPQualityScore if your business needs configurable, real-time screening across multiple activity types, with API, batch, or selected on-premise deployment options. Its range of checks and adjustable rules are the main reasons to choose it; the central trade-off is managing lookup consumption against plan caps and escalating monthly costs. Smaller operations may be better served by the Free tier or a narrower alternative, while high-volume teams should compare custom Enterprise terms before committing.
