Overview

BIMcollab is a multi-discipline platform for teams coordinating building and infrastructure projects across their lifecycle. It is best suited to project teams that need model review and issue coordination connected to BIM tools, rather than a viewer alone. Its strongest case is the combination of IFC viewing, BCF issue workflows, and model checking; its per-user plans become more expensive month to month.

Key features

Model viewing: The browser-based WebViewer supports IFC models, while BIMcollab Zoom is a downloadable viewer for Windows and Mac OS X. That gives teams both browser access and a desktop option, though mobile access is viewer-only.
Issue management: BCF-based issue handling works through plug-ins for BIM tools, and issues can be exported as BCF, PDF, CSV, or XLS. This makes BIMcollab more useful for coordination workflows than a viewer without issue-management tools.
Model checking: Zoom supports Smart Views, clash detection, and IDS checks. Its free mode includes viewing, annotations, BCF issue management, and visual validation through Smart Views, making it a meaningful way to assess core review functions before paying.
Integrations and access: BIMcollab connects to 35+ integrations, including Power BI, Solibri, Trimble Connect, AutoCAD, Autodesk Docs, and Revit. API access extends its reach beyond the named integrations.
Security and support: BIMcollab states that it is ISO 27001 and PCI-DSS certified, and that cloud data is stored in the Netherlands unless a customer uses on-premise installation. Support is offered by email, video call, and live chat during regular CET business hours, with Help Center articles and tutorials. It does not provide SOC 2 audit reports for SSAE 16, which may matter to organizations requiring those reports.

Pricing

BIMcollab has a free plan and a free trial, but its paid subscriptions are priced per user, so team costs rise with seat count. Each listed paid plan includes unlimited projects and fair use file conversions; the main differences are storage, guest access, billing commitment, and Enterprise sales contact.

Basic: €12.50 per user/month billed Annually, or €19 per user/month billed Monthly. Both include 10 GB storage per space, 1 guest access, unlimited projects, and fair use file conversions. This is the lower-cost fit for teams that can work within the storage cap and need only one guest access.
Advanced: €18.75 per user/month billed Annually, or €29 per user/month billed Monthly. It raises storage to unlimited and guest access to two while retaining unlimited projects and fair use file conversions. Choose it when Basic’s storage or guest limit would constrain project coordination.
Enterprise: €25 per user/month billed Annually, or €39 per user/month billed Monthly. It includes unlimited storage, two guest accesses, unlimited projects, and fair use file conversions, with contact sales. On-premise installation on customer servers is available for Enterprise plans with 500 or more users.

Annual commitment lowers the per-user monthly price for each paid tier, while monthly billing costs more. Basic gives up the unlimited storage and second guest access available on Advanced and Enterprise; Enterprise is the relevant tier for very large organizations needing the stated on-premise option.

Platforms

BIMcollab supports Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, API, and self-hosted deployment. The WebViewer supports IFC models, Zoom runs on Windows and Mac OS X, and mobile access is viewer-only. Cloud collaboration and quantity takeoff are supported.

Who it's for

BIMcollab is a strong fit for multi-discipline building and infrastructure teams that need to review IFC models, coordinate BCF issues through their BIM tools, and use clash detection or model checks in one broader workflow. Its integrations and API suit teams connecting BIM coordination to other project systems. A standalone-viewing need, or a requirement for SOC 2 audit reports for SSAE 16, points elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free mode covers viewing, annotations, BCF issue management, and Smart Views, so it offers more than basic model viewing for initial evaluation.
Pros: Issue exports in four formats and plug-ins for BIM tools help keep coordination linked to existing workflows.
Pros: Paid plans retain unlimited projects, and Advanced and Enterprise remove the stated storage cap.
Cons: Basic is capped at 10 GB per space and one guest access, which may restrict teams that need more shared storage or external participation.
Cons: Monthly billing is notably higher per user than annual commitment, while the paid pricing structure makes larger seat counts consequential.
Cons: The lack of SOC 2 audit reports for SSAE 16 may exclude it from some organizations’ security requirements.

Alternatives

Choose Dalux if a free punch-list tool with unlimited tasks and up to three active projects or buildings under its free-use terms is the priority. BIMx Web Viewer is a free browser viewer, with BIMx Pro features on Model Transfer requiring eligible-company membership and Graphisoft ID sign-in.

Open IFC Viewer is a free IFC viewer with no license fees. Graphisoft BIMx offers a free app and browser viewer, with a Graphisoft account required to open projects on iOS, Android, and desktop. 3D Repo is a paid option for which small-team storage, processing, user, and API terms are handled through sales contact.

Modelo is another freemium option; its Pro Monthly plan costs 30.00 USD per month and includes 5 GB storage and a 500 MB maximum upload. Sketchfab offers a free Basic plan with a 50MB maximum file size per model, making it a simpler option when that file limit fits the need.

For adjacent choices, compare the 3D Model Viewer Software, BIM Software, and Construction Document Management Software categories.

Verdict

BIMcollab is the right choice for multi-discipline project teams that need IFC review, BCF issue coordination, and model checking tied to their BIM tools. Its free mode gives a useful entry point, and paid tiers scale storage and guest access without limiting projects. Look elsewhere if you need only a free viewer, or if your organization requires SOC 2 audit reports for SSAE 16.
