Overview

Riipen brings colleges, organizations and learners together around real-world projects embedded in academic programs. It is best suited to institutions that want to coordinate course-based work with employers and report on learner outcomes; its institutional pricing and LMS fit deserve a close look before adoption.

Most opportunities are virtual and project-based, with students completing organizational tasks as part of a course. Educators can publish experiences to a marketplace, match with employers and learners, assign projects and reuse experiences in later terms. Employers can post projects, join educator-led experiences and manage communication, deliverables and feedback.

Key features

Project coordination

Educators can create experiences, find and match projects, onboard learners and oversee work. Milestones, deadlines, team assignments, agreements, surveys, worklogs and team-status tracking give participants a shared structure for delivery. This is a useful fit for programs that need more than a project listing, though institutions should assess whether the workflow matches their own placement processes.

Outcomes and reporting

Educators can collect employer feedback, run surveys, award achievements and build reports from outcome data, with raw data export also supported. That makes Riipen more relevant to programs that need to evaluate learning outcomes as well as arrange projects.

Integrations and security

LTI connections support single sign-on account provisioning and adding learners to linked experiences. Riipen identifies Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas and Moodle as currently supported for its experience LTI integration; institutions using another LMS are advised to contact Riipen. Deeper LMS integration, including roster syncing, can be handled through API. SSO systems using SAML 2.0 are supported, and achievements can connect to external credentialing platforms, including a native Credly integration.

For organizations with technical resources, Riipen provides a documented REST API, webhooks, a developer dashboard and Zapier integration. Riipen says customer data is hosted in AWS facilities in Canada, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access and activity logged and audited. Security questions can be directed to help@riipen.com.

Pricing

Riipen uses a freemium model. Riipen for students and employers costs 0.00 USD per free. Students and employers can use the platform at no cost; employers pay no recruitment fee if they hire students after a project or course. This removes a direct platform charge for participants, but it is not the institutional plan.

Riipen for institutions has custom pricing, shared on request through a demo. Institutions should get a quote and confirm which workflows and integrations are covered before committing. The free participant access does not establish the cost of an institution-wide deployment.

Platforms

Riipen is available on web and through an API. Its LMS connections and developer tools may matter more to institutional buyers than a dedicated mobile app, particularly where learner access is organized through an existing campus system.

Who it's for

Riipen is aimed at colleges and universities arranging experiential learning, as well as businesses and nonprofits seeking student contributions to projects. Learners benefit when their institution or an employer brings a project into the platform. It is less compelling for an individual learner seeking a standalone course or a general-purpose job board.

Pros and cons

Pro: Project coordination combines milestones, teams, agreements and worklogs, helping educators and employers keep course-based projects organized.
Pro: Feedback, surveys, achievements, reports and raw data export support outcome tracking beyond project completion.
Pro: Students and employers have free access, and employers are not charged recruitment fees for subsequent hiring.
Con: Institutional pricing requires a request, so schools cannot readily compare deployment costs from a published rate.
Con: The experience LTI integration currently supports four named LMSs; institutions using another system need to check compatibility with Riipen.

Alternatives

For a broad comparison, see Internship Management Software.

TPO Bridge is worth considering when campus recruitment is the priority: it is free, works on Android, iOS and web, and offers unlimited job posts and campus drives without subscription or per-post charges.
BeChallenge may suit teachers who want to design a learning experience using its free AI Experience Designer; it is web-based, with an institutional subscription also offered.
InPlace is another paid option for teams seeking internship management software.
Symplicity CSM Experiential Learning is a paid institutional module for teams considering another experiential-learning platform.
GradLeaders is another paid option for teams comparing career and experiential-learning software.
CareerHive WIL is a paid web and API option with institutional pricing discussed with its team.
Hiree365 is a freemium web-based alternative to consider for a different recruitment workflow.
Workseed offers a paid LMS with fixed or usage-based pricing, which may suit organizations seeking an LMS rather than Riipen's project-matching focus.

Verdict

Riipen is a strong fit for institutions that want to embed employer projects in academic programs and track what learners gain from them. Its project management and outcome tools give the model practical structure, while free student and employer access lowers friction for participants. Choose another option if your LMS is outside the supported LTI set and deeper integration is not workable, or if you need a published institutional price before evaluating software.
