Overview

Beam brings proposals, project activity, and financial tasks into one system, aiming to reduce reliance on spreadsheets and paperwork. That breadth is a practical advantage for contractors who want job coordination and payment administration alongside estimating. The trade-off is that teams needing more than two users or regular AI-assisted estimating will have to consider a paid plan; payment fees also matter for businesses that process transactions through Beam.

Key features

Estimating and project coordination

Beam’s AI Assistant turns plans, takeoffs, or notes into proposals and learns a contractor’s pricing and style. That can make proposal creation more tailored, though Core’s five free AI estimates are a small allowance for ongoing use. The product also includes daily logs, schedules, task management, change orders, and a client portal for updates and documents, giving contractors a place to handle routine project coordination and client communication.

Financial tools and integrations

Beam combines invoicing and online payments with bill payment, expense management, job costing, and lien waiver management. That range can suit a contractor looking to connect job-level financial work with project administration. QuickBooks Online integration is supported, and Beam names CompanyCam, busybusy, Dash Solutions, RenoFi, and XactRemodel as partners.

Beam says it encrypts data in transit using HTTPS and TLS, and tokenizes sensitive details such as bank account and card numbers instead of storing the actual data. Businesses processing payments must also verify their identity under Beam’s Know Your Customer and Know Your Business requirements. ACH transfers carry a $5 flat fee and credit card payments a 3% fee; Beam says the card fee can be passed to the customer, but that may affect how a contractor presents payment options.

Pricing

Beam is freemium, with no free trial. Core costs $0 per month and includes up to 2 users, the first 5 AI estimates, and unlimited estimates, projects, invoices, and payments. It is a useful starting point for a very small operation, but the user cap and limited AI allowance may push growing teams toward a paid plan.

Plus costs $250 per month when billed monthly or $200 per month when billed annually. It raises the limit to 5 users, includes unlimited AI estimating, and supports up to 50 cards. The annual rate is the lower-cost route for a team that expects to use the plan over the year; monthly billing costs more but does not require that annual term.

Scale is shown at $400 / mo and $500 / mo, with the plan comparison not clarifying which billing periods those amounts represent. It supports up to 10 users and adds lien waiver management, compliance tracking, and cost-plus invoicing. These are relevant additions for contractors with those needs, but the unclear billing basis makes it harder to compare against Plus.

Enterprise has custom pricing and includes unlimited users, unlimited cards, and unlimited onboarding. Direct phone support is listed for Scale and Enterprise; Beam also offers email and chat support, with contact hours Monday through Friday, 8am–6pm PST.

Platforms

Beam is web-based, supports major desktop browsers, and works on mobile devices. That suits teams coordinating across office and job sites, without a separate desktop platform to install.

Who it's for

Beam is purpose-built for small and midsized contractors, including home builders, remodelers, specialty trade contractors, and commercial general contractors. It is a stronger fit for businesses seeking estimating, project workflows, and financial tools together than for buyers who only need one narrow function. Contractors should weigh team size, AI estimating needs, and transaction fees before settling on Core or a paid tier.

Pros and cons

Pro: Estimating, project coordination, and financial workflows sit in one product, which can reduce the need to manage those tasks across separate tools.
Pro: Core includes unlimited estimates, projects, invoices, and payments at no subscription cost, making it a viable entry point for a team of up to two users.
Pro: Plus removes the AI-estimate quota and raises the user limit to five, which addresses two of Core’s most important constraints.
Con: Core allows only two users and five free AI estimates, limiting its appeal for larger teams or frequent AI-assisted estimating.
Con: ACH transfers cost $5 and credit card payments cost 3%, so payment volume and customers’ preferred methods can affect operating costs.
Con: Scale’s $400 / mo and $500 / mo prices are not tied to billing periods, leaving a key cost comparison unresolved.

Alternatives

Home Builder Software is a category directory for comparing options in that field. Consider Buildxact if its free Go plan’s five complimentary credits, AI estimating, professional proposals, and Home Depot material ordering better match your needs; it also offers a free trial and Android and iOS apps alongside web access. BuildBook is another freemium option with a free trial and Android, iOS, and web platforms. Choose Hyphen CRM if you want a paid CRM option and are prepared to request a demo for pricing.

ClickHome may suit teams seeking a paid, multi-platform option with a free trial; its Connect plan is an optional add-on to Cloud at $100 per month. For custom home builders and remodelers considering a paid construction-management platform, BuildTools Bidding starts at $499 per month on a 12-month commitment billed monthly, with guided onboarding included. NEWSTAR is a paid web-based alternative.

Build Method is a paid alternative with a free trial and Android, iOS, and web access; its 1 User plan costs $99 per month, billed annually at $1,188, and includes unlimited projects, customers, and vendors with all features. CPro360 is another paid option with a free trial and Android, iOS, and web access.

Verdict

Beam is a compelling fit for small and midsized contractors who want estimating, project coordination, and financial workflows together, and Core offers a no-subscription way for a two-person team to start. Look elsewhere if Core’s user and AI-estimate limits are too restrictive, if payment fees undermine your preferred transaction mix, or if you need clearer Scale pricing before committing.
