Overview

Veeam Agent for Mac backs up files on macOS computers and supports file restore. It suits Mac users who want a no-license-cost starting point or commercial protection through Workstation or Server editions. Its clearest trade-off is a useful free entry point with a one-job ceiling and no direct object-storage backup.

Key features

File backup and file restore keep the scope focused: this is for protecting and recovering files on Mac computers, not a promise of broader Mac recovery modes. Ransomware protection is included, adding a relevant safeguard for data that would otherwise be at risk from malicious changes.

The Free edition allows one backup job and does not back up directly to object storage. That is a meaningful constraint for anyone who needs multiple jobs or a direct object-storage destination; the free tier is better suited to a limited backup setup. Workstation also supports one job, but targets commercial macOS protection and works with supported repositories. Server provides access to all product functions for macOS data-protection tasks.

The product is also described as supporting mobile and server backup, alongside continuous replication, failover orchestration, dependency mapping, test failover, and recovery runbooks. Its supported workloads include VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Microsoft Azure virtual machines, plus physical Windows. Hybrid deployment and item-level restore are supported, as are Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, and Teams workloads and audit logs. Those capabilities point to a broader data-protection and recovery role, though they do not change the Mac Agent plans' stated one-job limits.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free, with no license requirement. It is the practical choice for a single-job setup that does not need direct object-storage backup; those limits make it less suitable for more involved protection needs.

Workstation: custom pricing. This commercial edition is designed for macOS computer protection and supports one backup job to supported repositories. It fits users who need a commercial edition but should weigh the same one-job ceiling against their requirements.

Server: custom pricing. This commercial edition provides access to all product functions for macOS data-protection tasks, making it the option for users who need the broader feature set rather than the narrower Workstation scope. A 30-day trial is noted, but no plan-specific trial terms are provided.

Platforms

The Agent supports macOS. The broader product information also describes hybrid deployment and protection across virtual and physical workloads, including Windows servers and several Microsoft services.

Who it's for

Choose Veeam Agent for Mac if you need file backup and restore on macOS and can work within one job on Free or Workstation, or want the full function set in Server. Look elsewhere if direct object-storage backup is essential on the free edition, or if the one-job limit does not fit your workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: The Free edition has no license requirement, so users can begin with one backup job without a paid commitment.
Pros: Ransomware protection and file restore address both data protection and recovery needs.
Pros: Server provides access to all product functions for macOS protection tasks.
Cons: Free and Workstation are each limited to one backup job, restricting multi-job setups.
Cons: Free cannot back up directly to object storage, ruling out that destination for users who need it.
Cons: Workstation and Server have custom pricing, so the cost is not a fixed published amount.

Alternatives

For broader recovery planning, consider Veeam Recovery Orchestrator: it has a free plan and trial, but its NFR license is limited to demonstration, training, and education and is not for resale or commercial use. For Kubernetes protection, Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes has a free plan for five nodes and an enterprise trial for 500 nodes lasting 60 days. If you need a paid disaster-recovery option across platforms including macOS, Acronis Cyber Disaster Recovery Cloud offers a trial and pay-as-you-go billing for used DR cloud storage and compute.

Other category pages may help narrow the field: Disaster Recovery Software, Microsoft 365 Backup Software, Virtual Machine Backup Software, WAN Optimization Software, SaaS Backup Software, and Email Backup Software.

Verdict

Veeam Agent for Mac is a sound fit for Mac users who want file backup and restore with a genuinely free, no-license-required starting point. The one-job ceiling and lack of direct object-storage backup on Free are the main reasons to look elsewhere; users who need broader product functions should consider Server, while keeping in mind its custom pricing.
