Overview

BlippBuilder is a web-based editor for making augmented-reality experiences, with a visual workflow that also allows coding. It is best suited to creators who want to build and share web-delivered AR across phones, computers, and headsets without requiring viewers to install a dedicated app. Its strongest appeal is the combination of tracking options, device previews, and web sharing; the catch is that publishing requires a paid plan, and new subscriptions are suspended.

It belongs in Augmented Reality Software and AR Creation Software.

Key features

Creation, tracking, and assets

The drag-and-drop editor supports projects made with or without code, giving visual creators a direct route into AR while leaving room for coding in the workflow. Surface and marker tracking, gyro features, and listed face, image, and world tracking offer several ways for an experience to respond to a target or device movement. That range is useful for varied concepts, though capabilities are not broken down by plan.

Uploads support JPG, PNG, GIF, MP4, MP3, GLB, and glTF, covering still images, video, audio, and 3D assets. The Sketchfab integration lets creators browse and import thousands of free 3D assets in the builder, a convenient starting point for prototypes. Paid Sketchfab models are not imported directly: they must be downloaded separately and uploaded.

Preview and delivery

Projects can be checked in the editor canvas or scanned onto a device with a temporary QR code before publishing. Once published, they can be shared by URL or QR code and remain live while the subscription is active. This is a practical route for web-distributed experiences, but it makes an active subscription part of keeping projects online. AR content requires an internet connection, so BlippBuilder is a poor fit for offline scenarios.

Viewers can access created content on iOS and Android smartphones, desktop, and headsets including Magic Leap 2 and Meta Quest. The builder itself is web-based; the broad set of viewing devices is useful when an experience needs to reach different audiences.

Pricing

BlippBuilder uses a freemium model, but the free Starter plan is for creating, testing, and exploring: it does not publish projects. Every paid plan price is custom or unpublished, so the commitment cannot be compared on cost alone. Blippar has suspended new subscriptions while upgrading its technology platform architecture, which makes paid publishing an unavailable path for new subscribers at present.

Plan	What it includes	Best fit
Starter	0.00 USD per free; create, test, and explore projects; publishing requires a paid plan.	Learning the editor or developing a project that does not need to go live.
Creative	Custom pricing; billed 30 days with auto-renewal; 1 user, 1 published project, unlimited views, free hosting and storage.	A solo creator with one project to publish.
Creative Plus	Custom pricing; billed 30 days with auto-renewal; 1 user, 2 published projects, unlimited views, no Blippar watermark, free hosting and storage.	A solo creator who needs two live projects or wants publication without the watermark.
Pro	Custom pricing; billed 30 days with auto-renewal; 5 users, up to 5 published projects, unlimited views, free hosting and storage, and 1 hour of technical support.	A small team needing multiple seats, project capacity, and some technical support.
Education	Custom plan based on educational needs.	Educational use requiring a tailored plan.
Enterprise	Custom pricing for business or organisation needs.	Businesses or organisations looking for a tailored arrangement.

The paid tiers differ chiefly in seats, project limits, and, for Creative Plus, watermark removal; all three list unlimited views and free hosting and storage. Starter gives up publication entirely.

Platforms

The builder is web-based, while its AR content can be experienced on Android and iOS smartphones, desktop, and headsets including Magic Leap 2 and Meta Quest. That split suits creators who want to author in a browser and distribute across several viewing devices. It does not suit deployments that must work offline.

Who it's for

BlippBuilder makes sense for visual creators, educators, or small teams exploring browser-authored AR with varied tracking and common media and 3D uploads. The Starter plan can support creation and testing, but anyone who needs a live project needs a paid plan. With subscriptions suspended, new users should treat it as a tool to evaluate rather than a currently available route to publication.

It is less suitable for offline experiences, creators who rely on paid Sketchfab models being directly importable, or new publishers who need to launch now.

Pros and cons

Pros: Drag-and-drop creation with or without code supports both visual workflows and coding.
Pros: Surface, marker, gyro, face, image, and world tracking provide several options for AR interactions.
Pros: Temporary QR previews, then URL or QR-code sharing, support checking and distributing web projects.
Pros: Free Starter access allows creation and testing before a publishing commitment.
Cons: Starter cannot publish, and new subscriptions are suspended, blocking new users from the paid publishing route.
Cons: Published projects stay live only while the subscription is active, and experiences require internet access.
Cons: The Sketchfab integration imports free models only; paid models require separate download and upload.

Alternatives

8th Wall is worth considering for a free option across macOS, Windows, web, and self-hosted platforms, but its hosted platform has been retired and native export is coming soon.
MAKAR offers a free plan and trial across mobile, desktop, and web platforms; its free tier has limits including two projects, 10MB cloud storage, and two publications, with WebAR and WebVR unavailable.
MyWebAR is another freemium choice with a free trial and broad platform support; its Creator plan includes 100 views per year, 100 MB storage, and five projects.
TeamViewer Frontline is a paid alternative with a free trial and support across mobile, desktop, web, API, and self-hosted platforms.
WorldCAST has a free Creator plan with unlimited monthly views, no expiry, commercial and personal use, all studios, QR generation, and basic analytics.
Lens Studio is a free option for Windows and macOS.
Vuforia Studio is a paid option spanning mobile, desktop, and web platforms.
WorkLink Create is a paid alternative available for web, desktop, and mobile platforms.

Verdict

BlippBuilder is a strong fit for creators who want a visual, browser-based AR workflow with varied tracking, device previews, and web sharing. The main reason to choose it is that end-to-end creation and preview workflow; the main reason to look elsewhere is that publishing depends on a paid subscription, new subscriptions are suspended, and published work requires an active subscription and internet access.
