Overview

Animaker is a web-based service for producing animated and live-action videos. It combines prompt-driven video generation with tools for animation, asset creation, voice, subtitles, and translation. Users can review and edit a generated video before generating a finished version, so the prompt is a starting point rather than the only step in the workflow.

The product is made by Animaker, a company founded in 2014 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. Its stated audience ranges from individuals and educators to businesses and enterprises, with use cases including learning and development, HR, marketing and sales, and internal communications.

Key features

Animaker brings several parts of video production into one service:

Text-to-video generation: Turn a prompt into a video that can be reviewed, edited, and generated again.
Animation and visual creation: Make whiteboard animations and infographics, generate AI assets, and build custom characters. Animaker also includes 2D animation tools.
Voice and localization: Generate subtitles and translate content. The service describes AI voiceovers with more than 1,000 voices across more than 100 languages, plus automatic lip sync.
Templates and branding: Choose from more than 1,000 animation templates and use a Brand Kit.
Collaboration: Real-time collaboration is available. Enterprise adds dedicated seats, real-time comments, task assignments, a shared company resource library, and admin controls.
Exports: Finished animations can be downloaded as MP4, GIF, or WebM, at resolutions from SD through 4K. The free plan permits downloads, but exports carry an Animaker watermark.
API and publishing: The Ultra Gen API provides RESTful, JSON-based endpoints for connecting video generation with web and mobile apps. Animaker also describes a publish flow that uploads videos to a user's YouTube account through the YouTube Data API Client.

Animaker states that it is ISO 27001:2022 certified, follows GDPR and CCPA processes, and encrypts data in transit and at rest. Support resources listed by the company include tutorials, FAQs, training, and a contact option; its site also provides help@animaker.com.

Platforms

Animaker is web-based and also provides iOS and Android apps for creating animated videos on mobile devices. Its Ultra Gen API is intended for integrating video generation into web and mobile apps.

Who it's for

Animaker is a fit to consider for people and teams making animated or live-action videos for instruction, workplace communications, marketing, or sales. Educators and individuals are also among its stated audiences. The mix of templates, character creation, voiceovers, subtitles, and translation supports varied production needs, while real-time collaboration and Enterprise controls address teams working together.

It may be less suitable for someone who wants unrestricted access to premium assets or clean exports on the free tier: that plan limits premium assets and adds a watermark to downloads. Buyers should also account for the monthly credit, download, and video-length allowances on the listed paid plans.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad mix of animation and video tools; prompt-based generation with editing; voiceovers, subtitles, translation, and lip sync; large template library; mobile apps, web access, and an integration API.
Cons: Free exports are watermarked and premium assets are limited; several plans have specific monthly allowances; Basic and Enterprise prices are not listed in the provided plan details.

Alternatives

For adjacent visual-content needs, compare Animaker with Visme, Infogram, Piktochart, Jeda.ai, Drawtify, Easel.ly, GraphMake, and Venngage. Readers focused on a particular format can also browse Infographic Makers, Whiteboard Animation Software, Animated Presentation Software, Explainer Video Software, 2D Character Animation Software, and Infographic Software.

Verdict

Animaker brings together prompt-led video creation, 2D and whiteboard animation, custom characters, voice and localization tools, and team collaboration. Its web, iOS, and Android availability and API extend it beyond a single-device workflow. The main caveats are the free plan's watermark and premium-asset limits, plus credit and download caps on paid tiers. Teams comparing options should weigh those limits against their expected video volume and check pricing for plans whose amounts are not listed.
