Overview

With more than 900 million assets across images, video, audio, templates, and other formats, Adobe Stock can serve projects that need more than photography alone. Subscriptions cover standard images, templates, 3D assets, and music, and most plans also include HD video. That range is useful for varied production needs, though the right subscription depends on the asset mix and download allowance a buyer needs.

Adobe Stock works as a standalone service. For Photoshop users, Creative Cloud integration allows assets to be previewed, edited, and licensed in Photoshop before purchase, making it a more natural fit in an Adobe-centered workflow.

Key features

Adapt assets before licensing

AI Studio supports color and mood changes, aspect-ratio adjustments, background swaps, animation of still images, and text-based editing before licensing and download. This gives buyers a way to shape a candidate asset before committing to it. It is a useful stock-adaptation toolkit, not a reason to treat the service as a complete replacement for other creative software.

Commercial licensing with boundaries

Plans include commercial-use licensing, but the Standard License generally limits print runs to 500,000 and excludes use in items for resale. Projects involving resale or a larger print run need an Extended License. Buyers should account for that distinction before building an asset into packaging or other products for sale.

API and business administration

API access supports integration into software or workflows that need stock access. Team subscriptions pool licenses across members and are designed for small to midsize businesses. Enterprise subscriptions add configurable access, advanced administration, and deployment for midsize to large organizations. Adobe describes its security approach as incorporating hundreds of processes and controls through a Secure Product Lifecycle, and says it complies with industry standards and regulations and undergoes independent audits.

Pricing

Adobe Stock is paid, offers a 7-day trial, and has no free plan. The named subscriptions have custom pricing:

10 standard assets: 10 standard assets, 1 video, and 120 rollover credits; a modest allowance for an individual or project with limited recurring needs.
25 standard assets: 25 standard assets, 3 videos, and 300 rollover credits; a larger mixed-asset allowance.
40 standard assets: 40 standard assets, 6 videos, and 480 rollover credits; better suited to regular production requiring more video and asset volume.
750 standard assets: 750 standard assets and 25 videos; the highest-volume option among these subscriptions.
3 standard assets: 3 standard assets and 36 rollover credits; a small allowance for occasional use.
25 standard assets month-to-month: 25 standard assets, 3 videos, and 300 rollover credits, with month-to-month terms for buyers who want that cadence.

Credit packs have an expiry to watch: unused credits expire 12 months after purchase outside Japan and after 6 months for residents of Japan. Business plan inquiries can be made through a consultation request.

Platforms

Adobe Stock is available on Android, iOS, and the web, and provides API access. Its availability across mobile and web gives individuals several access points, while the API is relevant to organizations connecting stock to software workflows.

Who it's for

Adobe Stock is a strong fit for creatives and teams that need a wide choice of asset types, commercial licensing, and a way to modify stock before licensing. Photoshop users gain a more connected route from preview to purchase. Small and midsize businesses can use pooled team licenses, while larger organizations may benefit from configurable access and administration in enterprise subscriptions.

It is less suitable when a buyer needs free ongoing access, or when resale and large print runs are central and the added Extended License requirement does not fit the budget or workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: A catalog of more than 900 million assets spans images, video, audio, templates, and more, supporting varied creative needs.
Pros: AI Studio can alter images and video before licensing, while Photoshop integration supports preview and licensing in an established Adobe workflow.
Pros: Team and enterprise subscriptions offer pooled licensing, with enterprise access controls and administration for larger organizations.
Cons: There is no free plan, so ongoing use requires a paid subscription.
Cons: Standard licensing generally excludes resale and caps print runs at 500,000, so some commercial projects require an Extended License.
Cons: Credit packs expire, and the shorter six-month period in Japan makes unused credits especially important to manage.

Alternatives

For free media downloads and full-resolution photo and video downloads that require sign-up, Pixabay offers a free option, though it does not match Adobe Stock's paid subscription structure in the facts available here. Pexels is another free choice for photos and videos, with an API quota of 200 requests per hour and 20,000 per month.

Vecteezy is worth considering for buyers seeking image- or video-specific access options. Stockvault offers free image downloads, with usage governed by each image's license. VectorStock is an alternative for vector purchases, including a pay-once single-vector option with a Pro license and no ongoing commitment.

Shutterstock, IMAGO, and Depositphotos are other stock-media services to compare when choosing a library and licensing approach.

Verdict

Choose Adobe Stock if a broad multi-format catalog, commercial-use licensing, and pre-license asset editing matter more than having a free plan. Its integrations and pooled business licensing make it particularly compelling for Adobe-based creative teams. Look elsewhere if cost-free access is essential or your work depends on resale and large print runs that require an Extended License.
