Overview

Recovery infrastructure can run in Acronis Cloud, Microsoft Azure or a hybrid setup, giving providers options for where client workloads recover. Production failover supports an actual outage; automated test failover, including scheduled monthly tests for servers, gives teams a way to rehearse recovery. Runbooks define the steps to bring a client’s production environment up in the cloud, making planned procedures more repeatable.

Disaster Recovery to Cyber Protect Cloud can extend up to 23 local networks over a secure VPN tunnel, or connect in cloud-only mode without a VPN appliance. That flexibility is useful across different network designs, but each customer tenant is limited to one Disaster Recovery site location.

Key features

Workload support covers Windows Server, Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and Active Directory, major Linux distributions, and virtualization platforms including Red Hat Virtualization, Linux KVM, Hyper-V, VMware vSphere, Proxmox, Nutanix and Scale Computing. The range suits providers managing mixed client estates, although Windows workloads on ARM64 processors are unsupported.

Recovery capabilities include failover and failback orchestration, dependency mapping, immutable recovery points, bare-metal deployment and restore, application-aware backup, and a 15-minute minimum RPO. Network, media, multicast and unattended deployment options, along with driver injection, add flexibility for recovery and deployment scenarios.

Acronis says its cloud data centers meet ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA and other requirements. It also describes recovery to a clean point to help prevent ransomware reinfection. These measures support continuity planning, but they do not remove the need to manage recovery configuration and capacity.

The broader Cyber Protect Cloud ecosystem offers more than 300 integrations. Commonly named connections include Autotask, ConnectWise, Kaseya, Atera, Plesk, cPanel, CloudBlue and AppDirect, which may help providers fit the service into existing operations.

Pricing

Acronis Disaster Recovery to Cyber Protect Cloud uses custom pricing and pay-as-you-go billing for DR cloud storage and compute used during recovery or tests. Some features may require additional licensing, and the applicable licensing model affects cost. Providers are directed to a calculator or cloud advisor rather than a published dollar rate, so this is not a plan whose total cost can be judged from a list price alone.

The pricing note offers a 30-day trial and there is no free plan. Compute charges deserve particular attention: cloud servers consume compute points according to their configured flavor even when powered off, while recovery servers in Standby do not. If compute-points quota overage is reached, all primary and recovery servers will be shut down. That makes quota monitoring a continuity requirement, not merely a billing detail.

Platforms

The service supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web and self-hosted environments. Its broad platform coverage aligns with the mixed workloads and deployment models service providers may need to manage.

Who it's for

This is aimed at MSPs and other service providers that need to recover client systems after ransomware, hardware failure, natural disaster or another outage. Runbooks, test failover and multiple recovery infrastructure choices are most relevant to teams managing repeatable continuity services for clients. Organizations seeking a simple fixed-price product, or tenants needing more than one Disaster Recovery site location, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Recovery can target Acronis Cloud, Azure or a hybrid setup, giving providers meaningful placement flexibility.
Pros: Runbooks, failover orchestration and scheduled test failover support planned recovery rather than relying only on emergency response.
Pros: Broad server, application and virtualization workload support suits providers with varied client estates.
Cons: Pay-as-you-go compute and storage, plus licensing-dependent costs, make spending less predictable than a published fixed price.
Cons: Reaching the compute-points overage quota shuts down both primary and recovery servers, so quota management directly affects availability.
Cons: Each tenant supports only one DR site location, and Windows on ARM64 is not supported.

Alternatives

For a focused comparison across recovery products, browse Disaster Recovery Software or Cloud Disaster Recovery Software. Providers comparing broader data-protection categories can also consider Backup and Disaster Recovery Software and Continuous Data Protection Software.

Bitdefender Total Security is a different fit for individuals seeking paid security software with a free plan and a 5-device, 1-account first-year plan at 59.99 USD per year, plus applicable sales tax. For managed threat response rather than recovery infrastructure, Arctic Wolf Managed Detection and Response offers 24x7 monitoring, integrated telemetry and Active Response, with custom pricing.

Huntress Managed Detection and Response is another managed detection and response option; its Managed EDR example is 7.99 USD per month per endpoint for 100 endpoints on a standard 12-month term, with a 50-agent minimum commitment. WithSecure MDR may suit buyers seeking EPP and EDR together, with identity and cloud coverage available as add-ons. CrowdStrike Falcon Surface, eSentire MDR, Red Canary MDR and ReliaQuest MDR are other listed alternatives.

Verdict

Acronis Cyber Disaster Recovery Cloud is a strong candidate for MSPs that need to orchestrate recovery across diverse client workloads, with rehearsals and runbooks built into the service. Its main trade-off is operational and financial discipline: providers must track usage and quota closely, and customers needing multiple DR locations per tenant or Windows ARM64 support should choose another fit.
