Overview

Functionize Studio creates, runs, and maintains software tests from plain-language descriptions. It is a strong fit for developers and test teams looking to connect coding agents to browser testing, though credit limits can interrupt agent work.

Key features

Studio reads the running application each time it runs a test and supports cross-browser runs. The company says it adapts tests to interface changes by identifying elements by their function rather than depending on brittle selectors. That can reduce the maintenance burden on changing interfaces, but it does not remove the need to watch usage: agent work stops when credits run out.

Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, and other MCP-compatible clients can hand work to Studio through its MCP server. The enterprise page also describes connections to CI/CD, Jira, Slack, and an identity provider. Those agent connections make Functionize relevant to teams building testing into developer workflows; the integrations page is marked “Coming Soon.”

Enterprise provisions include SOC 2 Type II, SSO and role-based access, isolated execution, secure tunnels, and cloud or private deployment. Customers can configure data residency for their operating region. Premium support, account management, and onboarding are also described for enterprise customers, making that tier more suited to organizations with security and service requirements than to teams seeking a low-cost setup.

Pricing

Functionize has a free plan and paid plans from $20/mo. Free has no time limit, 5 parallel runs, all agent capabilities, a team workspace, and self-serve billing and support. Its credit allowance is inconsistent: the plan summary says 800,000 credits per month, while the FAQ says 400,000. Since agent work pauses at exhaustion until credits are bought or the billing period restarts, confirm the allowance before relying on Free for ongoing agent use.

Plan	Price	Included	Best fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	800,000 credits/mo in the plan summary; 5 parallel runs; all agent capabilities; team workspace	Trying the workflow without a time limit, provided the credit discrepancy is acceptable
Growth	20.00 USD per month	3,200,000 credits/mo; 5 parallel runs; shared credit pool; SSO and role-based access control	Smaller teams needing more credits and access controls
Scale	100.00 USD per month	20,000,000 credits/mo; 10 parallel runs; shared credit pool; SSO and role-based access control	Teams running more tests in parallel or needing a larger shared pool
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Custom monthly credits; multi-team management; invoice/PO billing with a 12-month minimum; premium support and account management	Organizations needing tailored credits, deployment, or support

Growth and Scale customers can buy 200,000 additional credits for $10 during a billing period. Growth keeps the same five parallel runs as Free, so its higher price primarily buys more credits and access controls; Scale adds five more concurrent runs as well. Enterprise's 12-month minimum is a significant commitment.

Platforms

Functionize is a web platform. Its testing capabilities include cross-browser, mobile web, and visual testing, along with a self-hosted runner. These options suit browser-focused quality work; the platform listing does not establish native mobile app testing.

Who it's for

Developers can connect coding agents through MCP, while testers can direct quality standards; the company also positions Studio for leaders. Functionize is most compelling for teams that want plain-language test authoring and browser runs connected to agent workflows. It is less suitable when uninterrupted agent work matters more than credit-based limits, or when native mobile testing is required.

Pros and cons

Pro: Plain-language authoring and element identification based on what interface elements do can reduce dependence on brittle selectors.
Pro: Free includes agent capabilities and a team workspace without a time limit, giving teams room to evaluate the workflow.
Pro: Growth and Scale include shared credits and access controls; Scale also raises parallel runs to 10.
Con: The two published Free credit figures conflict, complicating usage planning.
Con: Agent work stops at credit exhaustion, even though other functions continue.
Con: Enterprise has a 12-month minimum, and its price is custom.

ACCELQ is worth comparing if Android, iOS, API, desktop, or self-hosted platform coverage matters alongside web testing; it has a free plan and trial.
TestArchitect may suit buyers looking for a trial rather than a continuing free plan; its trial is described as typically 60 days from activation.
Parasoft SOAtest is a paid alternative with tailored pricing based on business needs and a free trial.
HyperExecute offers a free tier with 300 testing minutes and up to two concurrent sessions on Windows or Linux VMs, useful when a defined execution allowance is preferable.
Avo Assure uses custom quotes tailored to application and team scale and includes dedicated onboarding.
TestingWhiz has a free Community Edition and trial, making it another option for readers considering a free entry point.
Keysight Eggplant Test is an enterprise software alternative with quote-based pricing.
Worksoft Certify is another paid alternative for web, Windows, and macOS platforms.

Verdict

Choose Functionize if your team wants plain-language browser tests, agent handoffs through MCP, and a free tier that can be used without a time limit. Its defining advantage is connecting test authoring and maintenance to coding-agent workflows; its clearest drawback is credit-pause risk, compounded by the conflicting Free allowance. Look elsewhere if credit interruptions or the Free-plan uncertainty would disrupt your testing routine.
