What Snag is
Snag is a free iPhone app for identifying music, powered by Apple’s ShazamKit. It saves a short audio clip with each identification attempt, even when it does not find a match. Retry Analysis checks saved audio across multiple sections of a clip and may identify tracks missed on the first attempt. The app can record audio while offline, although matching requires an internet connection and can be done later. Its history records the date of each attempt and can include optional location and personal notes. Users can replay clips, retry identification, open identified songs in Apple Music or Spotify, and share identified songs using a link. History and recordings stay on the iPhone and can sync through the user’s private iCloud account. For matching, the device sends an audio fingerprint directly to Apple’s Shazam Catalog; Snag says it does not see, store, or process that fingerprint. The app has no Snag account, advertising trackers, or third-party product analytics. Its music history currently has no search feature.
