What RomForge is

RomForge is a desktop tool for organizing ROM collections against OfflineList XML DAT files. It scans ROM folders and compares files with DAT entries using CRC32, then shows statuses such as Verified, Missing, Incorrectly Named, Wrong Archive Type, and Untrimmed. It can rename ROMs to expected filenames, switch archives between ZIP and 7z, and remove GBA and NDS padding. Users supply the DAT files; the app supports multiple DATs and can update them from configured URLs. Its cache re-hashes only changed files, and game-list status persists across restarts. RomForge is a modern rewrite of OfflineList that retains compatibility with community DAT files, but it does not currently read No-Intro/Logiqx format. It runs on macOS with Apple Silicon or Intel, Windows x64, and Linux x64. The macOS app is signed and notarized; Windows and Linux downloads are ZIP and TAR.GZ archives. RomForge is open source under the MIT license and is free.

Good

  • Checks files against DAT entries with CRC32
  • Shows per-game verification and mismatch statuses
  • Renames ROMs and switches ZIP or 7z archives
  • Removes padding from GBA and NDS ROMs
  • Supports multiple DATs and changed-file scan caching

Watch out

  • Does not currently read No-Intro/Logiqx DAT format
  • Users must supply the DAT files

Who it suits

RomForge suits people managing ROM collections with OfflineList XML DAT files on macOS, Windows, or Linux. It may not fit collections organized around No-Intro/Logiqx DAT files.

Verdict

RomForge combines DAT-based checking with renaming, archive conversion, and padding removal. Its key constraint is that it reads OfflineList XML DATs, not No-Intro/Logiqx files.
