Regeste
Regeste lets users ask questions about documents and receive answers linked to the exact supporting passages.
What Regeste is
Regeste lets users ask questions about documents and receive answers linked to the exact supporting passages. Documents are read, indexed and searched in the browser, while numbered citations open the source at highlighted text. Users can choose on-device answering, cloud answers or an AI server they operate themselves. On-device mode keeps documents, indexes, chats, questions and answers in the browser and does not contact Regeste’s server; it requires downloading a model file once. Cloud mode sends the question and user-approved passages through the server to the model without storing them in a database, and users can review or untick passages first. User-server connections support Ollama and LM Studio, with vLLM and OpenAI-compatible APIs also named. Regeste is free, needs no account to start and can run on the web or a self-hosted domain. Its code is public under AGPL. Cloud answers have a daily allowance.
