What NOVA Video Player is
NOVA Video Player is a free, open-source video player for Android phones, tablets, and Android TV. It plays videos stored locally, on external USB drives, or on network shares; it does not supply streaming content. Network playback supports SMB, UPnP, FTP, FTPS, SFTP, WebDAV, and WebDAVS. NOVA brings sources into a media library and uses TMDb for movie and TV descriptions, posters, and backdrops. Playback includes hardware-accelerated decoding, resolutions up to 4K, multiple audio and subtitle tracks, subtitle downloads, and manual audio/video synchronization. Supported codecs include HEVC/H.265, Dolby Vision, AC3, DTS, DTS-HD, DTS:X, TrueHD, and E-AC3 JOC; supported subtitle formats include SRT, SUB, VOBSUB, PGS, and SSA. On supported hardware it can pass AC3/DTS audio through HDMI or S/PDIF, with audio boost and night mode. Trakt can track watched content and progress, and resume points can sync through writable network shares or Trakt, which covers up to the last 100 played entries.
