What Nicotine+ is

Nicotine+ is a graphical client for the Soulseek peer-to-peer network, where people can share files, chat, and find others with similar interests. It is designed to remain compatible with other Soulseek clients. The free, open-source software is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and its listed plan costs nothing. Nicotine+ is written in Python and uses GTK for its interface, with versions for GNU/Linux, Windows, and macOS. Official Windows installers cover x64 on Windows 10 or later and ARM64 on Windows 11 or later; Apple Silicon and Intel installers support macOS 11 Big Sur or later. Linux installation options include distribution packages, Flatpak, Snap, a team PPA for Ubuntu and Debian, and PyPI. The Nicotine+ Team says the client does not collect data it uses or stores. However, Soulseek is an unencrypted protocol not intended for secure communication. Users connecting to the default server agree to its terms; that server is not operated by the Nicotine+ Team. The standalone Windows package shares its data and configuration folder with the installed variant, so the two can conflict.
