What HyperSpin is

HyperSpin is a frontend for organizing and launching games and emulators from a menu; it is not a game or an emulator itself. HyperHQ manages the library’s systems, games, emulators, and media. It can bring Steam games, including local and family-shared games, into the same library as emulator games, and connect systems to selected RetroArch cores. For arcade cabinets, it supports navigation with arcade controls and can hide the Windows desktop. HyperTheme provides tools for arranging media and layers into animated themes and setting their timing. During play, HyperOverlay provides access to controls, manuals, discs, and saves. Evaluation Mode allows up to 10 system or collection wheels and includes watermarks and a launch delay. Platinum Member costs $50, paid once as a lifetime membership, removing those limits and adding Platinum Discord access and a badge. Windows and Linux are listed, but the current Linux alpha targets x64 Bazzite, Ubuntu Desktop, and Steam Deck in SteamOS Desktop Mode; compatibility is not confirmed for every target.

Good

  • Combines Steam and emulator games in one library.
  • Supports arcade-control navigation and hiding the Windows desktop.
  • HyperTheme creates animated themes from media and layers.
  • HyperOverlay provides controls, manuals, discs, and saves.
  • Supports RetroArch core connections through HyperHQ.

Watch out

  • Evaluation Mode is limited to 10 wheels.
  • Evaluation Mode includes watermarks and a launch delay.
  • Linux compatibility is not confirmed on every target.
  • Steam Gaming Mode needs separate validation.

Who it suits

HyperSpin suits people building a game library around emulators and Steam, especially those setting up an arcade cabinet. Linux users should note that the current alpha has limited target coverage and needs further validation.

Verdict

HyperSpin brings library management, arcade-oriented navigation, and theme tools together in one frontend. The free Evaluation Mode has stated limits, while the lifetime Platinum Member plan removes them for $50, paid once.
