FreeLists
FreeLists is a web service for operating email mailing lists.
What FreeLists is
FreeLists is a web service for operating email mailing lists. Subscribers send messages to a list address, and posts are distributed to other subscribers who opted in. Lists can be configured as one-way newsletters or many-to-many discussion forums. The service includes digest mode, vacation mode, post moderation, and searchable archives that update as messages arrive. Archives cannot be turned off or protected with a password, though email addresses shown in them are obfuscated. FreeLists requires subscribers to opt in and consent to receive posted content. It says it does not participate in advertising, lead generation, analytics, or tracking. For domains with a reject DMARC policy, the service may substitute a freelists.org address for the sender’s From address. List owners cannot directly add subscribers; an exception is a migration import when consent was already established with the previous service. FreeLists accepts mbox archive transfers and says it can create custom imports for other formats. Some list functions can be managed by emailing commands to [email protected], although many commands are limited to administrators. Owners can contact support through the contact form or [email protected]. The service is provided free of charge, and its terms state that it is provided as is, without express or implied warranties.

Who it suits
FreeLists suits groups that want a no-cost email newsletter or discussion list with opt-in subscribers and searchable archives. List owners who need private archives or direct subscriber additions should note the restrictions.
Verdict
FreeLists provides core mailing-list formats and management features at no charge. Its public, searchable archives and subscriber-addition limits are important constraints for list owners.
