Comtech FX Series WAN Optimization
Comtech FX Series WAN Optimization is a self-hosted appliance solution for improving broadband quality of experience on high IP traffic links.
What Comtech FX Series WAN Optimization is
Comtech FX Series WAN Optimization is a self-hosted appliance solution for improving broadband quality of experience on high IP traffic links. It optimizes, compresses, bonds, balances, and prioritizes traffic, with emphasis on satellite links across GEO, MEO, and LEO using a Protocol Enhancement Proxy at both ends. Turbostreaming accelerates file transfers and web browsing; the datasheet states over 150 Mbps per user TCP session and up to 600 Mbps file transfer across 500 ms GEO links. The system supports transparent Layer 2 and Layer 3 operation, VLAN and MPLS stacks, and L2/L3 VPNs, including overlapping IP spaces. It accelerates 4G/LTE and 5G traffic in GTP tunnels and supports IPv4 and IPv6 concurrently. QoS and dynamic traffic shaping classify traffic by VPN, address, protocol, port, or QoS label and adapt to modem capacity. Optional features include header, packet, payload, GZIP, and byte-cache compression. The FX5020e can bond separate satellite bandwidth segments.
Good
- Supports GEO, MEO, and LEO satellite links
- Accelerates 4G/LTE and 5G GTP traffic
- Provides QoS and dynamic traffic shaping
- FX5020e bonds separate satellite bandwidth segments
- Offers web, CLI, SNMPv3, and console management
Watch out
- Pricing is available only on request
- Traffic above the licensed session tier passes unaccelerated
Who it suits
FX Series suits ISPs, mobile network operators, satellite service providers, and communications service providers managing high-latency or satellite links. It is deployed as self-hosted appliances, with hybrid deployment listed.
Verdict
FX Series combines traffic optimization, compression, shaping, and link bonding for satellite and mobile backhaul environments. Licensing limits the number of accelerated TCP sessions, so deployment planning must account for the selected tier.
