Azure Synapse Analytics is a cloud service for combining data warehousing and big-data processing. Its web-based options include a Serverless SQL pool for querying Azure Data Lake data without provisioning infrastructure; charges for that option depend on the data processed by queries. Dedicated SQL pools provide provisioned warehousing compute, with pay-as-you-go and one- or three-year reserved-capacity choices. The pay-as-you-go pool can be paused. Apache Spark plans cover data engineering, preparation, and machine learning, with memory-optimized and GPU-accelerated options. Data Explorer compute supports interactive analysis of logs and telemetry, including time-series and semi-structured data queries. The service separates storage from compute and supports data lakes, streaming ingestion, and in-database machine learning. Azure Synapse Analytics uses a cloud deployment model. It is paid, has no free plan, and pricing is available on request. The plan choices address distinct workloads, from querying lake data to running provisioned SQL and Spark processing.
