What Amazon Translate is
Amazon Translate is an API-based service for translating text on demand between 75 supported languages. It offers real-time and batch translation, plus document and website translation and glossary tools. Active Custom Translation uses parallel data examples to adjust output at runtime, without requiring customers to build and maintain a custom translation model. Real-time API calls are limited to 5,000 bytes each. Batch translation accepts up to 5 GB per call, with each document limited to 20 MB and 1,000,000 characters; supported batch document formats include TXT, HTML, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, and XLIFF. AWS documentation describes integrations with services including Comprehend, Transcribe, Polly, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift, Lambda, and Glue. AWS says content is encrypted in transit and at rest and remains customer-owned. It may store and use processed text to provide and maintain the service and improve machine learning technologies; an AWS Organizations policy can opt out of that use.
