What AI Horde is

AI Horde is a free, community-powered service for generating images and text with computing power shared by volunteers. It offers text-to-image generation, reference-image use, image editing, and API access through web, Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted setups. Its browser studio includes prompt refinement, style presets, image-to-image work, ControlNet, inpainting, remixing, transparent backgrounds, and QR-code workflows. Alchemy tools can upscale images, restore faces, remove backgrounds, create control maps, and produce image descriptions. The service uses open-source models, but available models and maximum image sizes can vary as volunteer workers join or leave. Anonymous requests are allowed, though they have lower priority and limits; priority can be earned by contributing computing power, and kudos cannot be purchased. Developers receive a REST API, with community frontends, bots, SDKs, and plugins listed. AI Horde says API requests are anonymized before dispatch, and workers use outbound polling rather than accepting incoming connections.
