What 3DMark is
3DMark is benchmark software for measuring graphics, processor, ray-tracing, API, and stability performance across PC, Mac, notebook, tablet, and smartphone systems. It scans hardware and recommends a suitable benchmark, and custom resolution and quality settings let users adjust test demands. Results can be compared with systems using the same CPU and GPU combination; some scores are comparable across Windows, Android, and iOS. Selected tests estimate frame rates in popular games, while hardware charts track CPU and GPU temperatures, clock speeds, and frame rate. The suite includes ray-tracing tests for high-end, lightweight, and mobile devices, plus six CPU Profile tests using different thread counts. Feature tests cover DirectStorage, Mesh Shaders, PCI Express, VRS, FSR, and DLSS. Steam buyers can install only the tests they need, and separate DLC tests storage hardware. A free Basic Edition offers selected tests for personal use; the Advanced Edition provides the full Windows suite, custom settings, and online result comparison. XML export and CLI or automation support are available.
Good
- Scans hardware and recommends an appropriate benchmark
- Compares scores for matching CPU and GPU combinations
- Charts temperatures, clock speeds, and frame rate
- Custom settings adjust resolution and quality demands
- Free Basic Edition includes selected personal-use tests
Watch out
- Advanced Edition is for Windows
- Some scores, not all, compare across platforms
- Storage benchmark requires separate DLC
Who it suits
3DMark suits people who want to benchmark and compare hardware across supported device types. It also offers tools for examining game performance estimates, hardware behavior, and specific graphics features.
Verdict
3DMark covers a broad range of hardware tests, with options for targeted feature checks and score comparisons. The free edition is limited to selected tests, while the full Windows suite is a separate edition.
