A Practical Voice-Safe Workflow On Your Phone
- Choose the voice source. Start with your own recording or a voice whose owner has agreed to the intended use. Do not treat a public clip or a YouTube link as permission.
- Write a specific musical brief. For example: “Create an original, slow piano ballad about leaving home, with a warm solo vocal; use my uploaded voice recording as the voice reference; write new lyrics and do not imitate a named singer.” This asks for a musical mood and a permitted voice source without implying a particular artist’s identity.
- Keep your human contribution. Save your lyrics, edits, and arrangement decisions separately from generated material. Record which portions came from the AI so you can describe the work accurately.
- Check rights before export or release. Read the selected plan’s terms for commercial use, voice models, uploads, and source recordings. A tool’s commercial-use statement is not proof that someone else’s voice or recording is cleared.
- Label and upload carefully. Spotify says it supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits and has an AI Persona badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person. - Can you show that you made the voice recording or got permission for this use?
- Does the tool’s plan permit your intended use, and do its terms address voice uploads and generated output?
- If you used a cover or source recording, have you checked the rights and platform requirements for that recording?
- Have you accurately disclosed realistic synthetic performance where the destination platform requires it?
- Can you distinguish your lyrics, performances, and edits from the material generated by the AI?
Where a service or platform does not state a rule in the information above, check its current terms before publishing. Permission, copyrightability, and a platform’s upload policy are separate questions, so satisfying one does not automatically answer the others.
