AI-generated music is not automatically protected by copyright just because you wrote the prompt. In the United States, the Copyright Office says fully AI-generated work is not copyrightable; human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. Separately, Spotify and YouTube have policies for AI impersonation, disclosure and repetitive uploads. For Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO users, the practical rule is to keep a record of what you wrote or performed yourself, get consent for any real person’s voice, and check both the music service’s terms and the platform where you plan to publish.
What The U.S. Copyright Office Says About AI Music
The U.S. Copyright Office’s January 29, 2025 report says that a work generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable in the United States. A prompt alone does not make the prompter the author. For a music example, a detailed prompt asking for a complete song does not, by itself, establish that you authored the resulting melody, vocals or arrangement. If you write lyrics or compose a melody yourself and use AI for other material, keep clear records of your contribution. The report does not mean that every mixed track receives protection, or that its scope is the same in every country.
What To Disclose When Registering A Mixed Work
When applying to register a work that contains more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, applicants must disclose that material and describe the human author’s contribution. The Copyright Office explains its disclosure requirement here.

A practical record could include your original lyric or melody draft, dated notes describing what you changed, and the final version. These records help you describe your contribution accurately; they do not guarantee that a particular part qualifies for copyright.
How Spotify And YouTube Policies Affect AI Music
Spotify’s AI Protections And Persona Labels
On September 25, 2025, Spotify announced that vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. The announcement also described a music spam filter for mass uploads and duplicates, and support for DDEX AI disclosures in credits. YouTube’s Inauthentic-Content And Synthetic-Media Rules
YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” monetization rule to the “inauthentic content” policy on July 15, 2025. The policy targets mass-produced, repetitive or template-based uploads, rather than AI use by itself. On July 20, 2026, YouTube clarified its guidelines, grouping concerns around generic or repetitive template-based content, off-putting or distressing content, and AI personas discussing sensitive topics. YouTube also requires creators to disclose realistic altered or synthetic content, including material that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance, using its altered-or-synthetic-content label. Check YouTube’s current upload flow and policies when publishing because a platform label is separate from copyright registration.

- Start with the part you can clearly identify as your own: for example, write a lyric or compose a short melody before asking an AI music service for a complete track.
- Use a specific prompt that separates your contribution from the requested generation, such as: “Use these original lyrics and this melody as the basis for a new song; generate an arrangement around them.” A prompt like “make me a hit song” leaves the human contribution less clear.
- Save your drafts, prompt, generated output and revision notes together. Note which lyrics, melody or edits you created and which elements the service generated.
- Before uploading, check the AI service’s license and the destination platform’s current rules. Disclose AI material where required, and use YouTube’s altered-or-synthetic label if the content is realistic and could be mistaken for a real person’s performance.
Tunee is one option described as creating vocal or instrumental music from conversational prompts, with reference uploads, stem separation, mastering and voice cloning. Its listed platforms are web, iOS and macOS; Android availability is not established here, so check Tunee’s site if you want to use it directly on a Xiaomi phone. Tunee says its Free plan is for personal, non-commercial projects and requires attribution. It says paid subscribers get full commercial rights to their tracks, while also cautioning that AI music copyright law is evolving and it cannot guarantee copyright protection. Voice Cloning, Covers And Samples Need Extra Care
Do not clone or imitate an identifiable person’s voice without that person’s consent. Spotify’s stated rule specifically requires authorization for vocal impersonation. Also check the AI service’s terms for voice cloning, reference uploads and samples, and make sure you have permission to use any recording or material you upload. The details of those permissions depend on the relevant service and rights holder; the facts here do not establish a blanket right to use a voice, cover or sample.
