A couple of days back, there was a buzz in the market of a possible Xiaomi EV project being under work. Today the company clarified that they are not working on an Electric Car at the moment.
Earlier reports suggested that the brand has been secretly working on an EV which is being spearheaded by Lei Jun, the company President, and CEO. The reasoning behind such a step was being quoted as the rise of EVs in the China market and the eventual saturation in the smartphone industry.
As per the story-making rounds, Lei Jun met with Elon mush in 2013 to figure out the plan for a similar project. Upon his visit back to China, he explored a bit of this endeavor. Today’s response from Xiaomi should be taken as the final decision since we know that even Apple is working on an EV that is set to launch in 2024.
Furthermore, in the recent year or so we have seen a number of Technology brands express interest in the EV segment and have been working closely with the Automobile sector for future projects. Given the track record of Xiaomi and how they have democratized the smartphone segment we are hopeful that if Xiaomi does indeed plan to make an EV, it will surely be catered towards the masses.
