Overview

vidIQ brings keyword research, competitor analysis, channel audits and metadata optimization into a toolkit focused on growing YouTube channels. Keyword Research combines scores, estimated search volume and competition with related keywords, matching terms and questions, giving creators several angles for evaluating a topic before making a video. Competitors helps compare channel performance, though it is not a substitute for a dedicated rank-tracking tool: vidIQ does not offer rank tracking.

Using YouTube integration requires permission to view analytics and manage videos and playlists. vidIQ says it uses multi-factor authentication so only the channel owner can make channel modifications, and identifies itself as a certified YouTube service provider that prioritizes privacy and data security. Creators should still consider whether they are comfortable granting those account permissions.

Key features

Research and optimization

The browser extension adds video SEO scores, keyword recommendations, competitor research overlays and upload optimization tools where creators work on videos. That makes it a practical complement to the web toolkit for people who want research close to the upload process. On the free/basic plan, however, Keyword Research returns only three results per search for Keywords For You, Rising Keywords and Top Search Terms for Your Channel, which can constrain topic exploration.

Mobile apps for iPhone and Android provide video research, content optimization and channel insights. They extend the toolkit beyond a desktop workflow, while the extension and web versions remain options for creators who prefer a browser-based process.

AI credits and support

AI credits are shared across supported tools rather than assigned separately, and monthly allowances refresh on the sign-up or upgrade anniversary. Users can contact Creator Support through Help in their vidIQ account menu.

Pricing

vidIQ is freemium, with a free plan and paid plans from $19/mo. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 150 AI Credits monthly, three Keyword Research results per search, eight Outliers results per search and three Personalized Daily Ideas per day. It is a reasonable entry point for occasional research, but those search and idea caps are restrictive for creators building a consistent publishing pipeline.

Max is 39.00 USD per year, billed yearly with a stated saving of $120. It includes 6,000 AI Credits monthly and unlimited insights, a much broader allowance for creators who rely on insights and supported AI tools. Boost is billed yearly and can be cancelled anytime; it includes 2,000 AI Credits monthly, unlimited trends research and unlimited subscriber insights, but has custom pricing. Its lower credit allowance than Max may matter to creators who use AI heavily.

Enterprise is 799.00 USD per month and includes unlimited AI credits, up to three full-access seats and up to five connected channels. Enterprise Pro is 2500.00 USD per month, with up to eight full-access seats, up to 20 connected channels and Creator Discovery. These tiers target teams managing multiple channels rather than individual creators. Enterprise Pro + YouTube Strategy has custom pricing and adds a dedicated YouTube strategist, 60-minute bi-weekly strategy calls and coaching support on one identified channel; it suits organizations seeking strategic guidance alongside the software.

Platforms

vidIQ is available on Android, iOS, web and as a browser extension. The mix supports mobile research and desktop video optimization without limiting the product to one device type.

Who it's for

Individual creators can start with Free and move to a paid tier when three-result keyword searches or limited daily ideas become a bottleneck. Max is a fit for creators seeking unlimited insights and a larger monthly credit pool. Brands, businesses, agencies and networks managing YouTube channels are the stated audience for Enterprise; the higher Enterprise Pro tiers make more sense when several people and channels need access.

Pros and cons

Pros: Keyword research combines demand estimates, competition and related search ideas, helping creators assess topics from several angles.
Pros: Extension, mobile apps and web access support different research and upload workflows.
Pros: Higher tiers scale to multiple seats and channels, with Enterprise Pro + YouTube Strategy adding recurring strategist calls and coaching.
Cons: The free plan limits key keyword searches to three results and daily ideas to three, limiting deeper ongoing research.
Cons: YouTube connection requires permissions to view analytics and manage videos and playlists.
Cons: No rank tracking is available, and the larger team plans carry substantial monthly prices.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see YouTube SEO Tools and Video Thumbnail Makers. Choose YTThumbnail when the need is a free thumbnail maker for personal, non-commercial use without registration or payment. 1of10 offers a free forever plan with 60 monthly credits, one channel and limited five-result outlier and thumbnail searches, so it is an option for creators focused on those searches. Vidlens has a free tier with 30 AI credits monthly, one competitor channel, AI titles, descriptions and tags, plus keyword research, making it a lower-cost starting point for those specific tools. YTStudio is a free web option with 40+ tools and no signup required. TubeBuddy is another freemium YouTube creator toolkit. RankVids is a paid web option with a Starter plan at 23.99 USD per month, billed $23.99/3 months and renewing automatically after three months. TubeRanker is a paid web option with a Basic Plan at 4.95 USD per year, billed annually at $59.40. TubeSpanner is another freemium web option.

Verdict

vidIQ is a strong fit for YouTube creators who want keyword research, competitor comparisons and optimization tools across desktop and mobile, with higher tiers for multi-channel teams. Its main limitation is the free plan’s narrow keyword and idea quotas; creators who need extensive research without paying, or rank tracking in particular, should look elsewhere.
