Overview

Tallwatch monitors websites and APIs from multiple regions and opens an incident when at least two regions report the same failure in one check round. That gives a team a regional confirmation step before incidents are routed, rather than treating one probe's failure as sufficient. The service also combines alerting, on-call escalation, status pages, and developer tools, so it can cover several parts of an operational workflow in one product.

Key features

Monitoring and regional confirmation

Checks cover HTTP, keywords, ping, TCP, DNS, SSL, and heartbeats, with latency monitoring, page health checks, and maintenance windows also supported. Tallwatch's six probe regions are Virginia, Frankfurt, Singapore, Sydney, São Paulo, and Oregon. Requiring two regions to agree can help avoid routing an incident based on a single regional failure, but it also means incident creation depends on agreement within one check round.

Alerting and response

Alerts can go to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, Discord, PagerDuty, and signed webhooks, with access varying by plan. On-call rotations and escalation policies route incidents to responders until acknowledged. That makes the service more relevant to teams with defined response ownership than to users who only want a basic uptime signal.

Status pages and developer access

Status pages support custom domains, public or private access, incident history, and email or RSS subscribers. The REST API, CLI, and hosted MCP endpoint allow monitor management and incident triage outside the web interface. The CLI runs on macOS, Linux, and Windows and can import monitors from UptimeRobot. MCP access uses scoped API keys: read keys can list and inspect, while write keys can pause monitors and acknowledge incidents. That separation is a useful boundary for teams that want automation without granting every integration write access.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. It includes 10 monitors, 60-second checks from three regions, up to three team members, one custom-domain status page, email and Slack alerts, seven days of check history, on-call, escalation, and email support. It is a capable starting point for a small team, but the slower checks, shorter history, and limited alert channels make it less suited to teams that need broad notification coverage or longer incident context.

Pro costs 11.99 USD per month billed annually, or $14.99/month billed monthly. It raises the ceiling to 100 monitors and up to 10 team members, adds 30-second checks across all six regions and all seven alert channels, and includes three status pages, 90 days of history, programmable webhook payloads, and email support. This is the practical fit for teams that need wider geographic coverage and richer routing without unlimited scale.

Business costs 19.99 USD per month billed annually, or $24.99/month billed monthly. It offers unlimited monitors subject to fair use, unlimited team members and status pages, 365 days of history, priority support, cross-team rollup, and removal of Tallwatch branding. It suits larger or multi-team operations that need shared visibility and long retention; smaller teams may not need its expanded scale and branding controls.

Tallwatch says it does not see or store card details and processes refunds through Stripe to the original payment method. After account termination, data is retained for 90 days for possible reactivation and then permanently deleted. Tallwatch does not currently publish a formal customer uptime SLA with automatic credits, which may matter to organizations requiring a contractual availability commitment.

Platforms

Tallwatch supports API, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows. Its CLI is available on macOS, Linux, and Windows, while the monitoring service also exposes a REST API and hosted MCP endpoint.

Who it's for

Tallwatch fits teams that monitor both websites and APIs and want regional confirmation, escalation routing, and status communication in the same service. Its Free plan can accommodate a small team with modest monitoring needs. Pro is better for teams that need all six regions, 30-second checks, and the full alert set; Business is aimed at organizations needing higher shared limits, cross-team rollup, and longer history. It is a weaker fit where a formal uptime SLA with automatic credits is a requirement.

Pros and cons

Pros: The two-region incident rule adds regional confirmation before an incident opens.
Pros: On-call rotations and escalation policies route incidents until acknowledged, rather than stopping at notification.
Pros: Custom-domain status pages, incident history, and email or RSS subscribers support both public and private communication.
Pros: Scoped MCP read and write keys distinguish inspection from actions such as pausing monitors or acknowledging incidents.
Cons: Free checks run every 60 seconds and cover only three regions, while 30-second checks and all six regions require Pro.
Cons: The Free plan limits alerting to email and Slack, with the other channels reserved for paid plans.
Cons: Tallwatch has no published formal customer uptime SLA with automatic credits.

Alternatives

For broader directory comparisons, see Website Monitoring Software and API Monitoring Tools.

Dotcom-Monitor is worth considering if its free allowance of up to 25 targets and two monitoring locations suits you better than Tallwatch's 10 free monitors and three regions; its free monitoring frequency is up to five minutes.
UptimeRobot is another free-plan option for hobby and nonprofit projects, with 50 monitors and a five-minute interval; Tallwatch is the stronger fit when its faster checks and incident routing matter more.
Better Stack is an alternative with a free plan for personal projects.
Visual Sentinel is an alternative with a Solo plan at 6.00 USD per month billed monthly.
Cronitor is an alternative with a free Hacker plan that includes five monitors and email and Slack alerts.
HostTracker is an alternative with a free plan for two monitors and checks every 30 minutes.
Uptimia is an alternative with a Basic plan at 9.00 USD per month billed annually.
Hyperping is an alternative with a free plan including 20 monitors and five-minute checks.

Verdict

Tallwatch is a sound choice for teams that want regional monitoring connected to on-call escalation, status pages, and developer access in one service. Its main advantage is the combination of multi-region confirmation and responder routing; its main drawbacks are the lack of a formal uptime SLA and the step up in cost required for 30-second checks across all regions. Choose it if operational response matters as much as uptime detection, and look elsewhere if a contractual SLA is essential.
