Overview

RetroStack is a live board for teams that want to run retrospectives, brainstorm, or make group decisions together. Its account-free anonymous participation makes it a good fit for distributed groups that need a low-friction way to gather input, while possible usage limits make it less certain as a high-volume meeting hub.

Key features

Six ready-made board formats give facilitators a starting structure, and custom boards let teams shape sessions around their own process. Participants edit a shared board live on phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops, so people can contribute from different devices without splitting the discussion across tools.

Voting can be set to 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 votes per section, or left unlimited. That range supports both tight prioritization and open-ended feedback, although potential caps on votes per session may matter for repeated or large-group use. Participants can join anonymously with the same feature set as registered users, and no account is needed to start a board. That reduces friction for guests and can suit feedback sessions where people prefer not to identify themselves.

AI analysis can identify sentiment and themes, suggest action items, and create meeting recaps. These outputs may help teams move from discussion to follow-up, but requesting them means content is processed through OpenAI. RetroStack says it does not use user content to train AI models. Boards can be exported to PDF or JSON and shared by private link, and action tracking is supported.

RetroStack supports email/password registration, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, and anonymous use. It says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with access controls, authentication requirements, and security-incident monitoring. Storage and analytics use Firebase and Google Cloud. Technical support is by email, with a stated response time within 24 hours.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and covers web, iOS, Android, and Mac, with no sign-up required. It includes retro templates, anonymous feedback, and action tracking. That makes it an accessible option for teams wanting to run sessions without committing to a paid plan, though the service may limit board creation, notes per section, votes per session, and AI analysis requests per day. Those caps could constrain teams that rely on frequent retrospectives or heavier AI use.

Platforms

RetroStack is available on web, iOS, Android, and macOS. That breadth suits teams whose members join from a mix of mobile devices and computers.

Who it's for

RetroStack is best suited to agile, remote, and distributed teams running retrospectives, planning, brainstorming, and decision-making meetings. It is especially appealing when guest access or anonymous contributions matter. Teams that need predictable capacity for frequent sessions should weigh the possible usage limits, while groups uncomfortable with sending requested AI-analysis content to OpenAI can use the boards without relying on those features.

Pros and cons

Pros: Anonymous, account-free participation lowers the barrier for guests and feedback sessions.
Pros: Live editing across mobile and desktop platforms keeps a mixed-device team on the same board.
Pros: Configurable voting, custom boards, action tracking, and PDF or JSON exports cover both facilitation and follow-up.
Cons: Possible caps on boards, notes, votes, and daily AI requests may constrain intensive use.
Cons: AI analysis processes content through OpenAI, which may not suit teams that prefer not to send discussion content for external processing.

Alternatives

For more retrospective software, browse Retrospective Software.

Choose Echometer if a free workspace with up to 25 members, unlimited retro guests, and one retro per month after its trial better matches a team’s cadence; its Starter plan also limits each team’s archive to two retros.

Neatro may suit a web-only group looking for a free plan with up to 10 members, unlimited retrospectives and radars, and more than 70 templates.

FocusRetro is another web-based option, with a free Starter plan offering three personal boards per month, core templates, voting, reactions, phase timers, and action items.

Consider Reetro if its free plan’s three teams, nine members per team, and 10 active boards fit your needs; that plan has no AI features.

ScatterSpoke offers a free web and API plan with one seat, unlimited static surveys and responses, and one-time Agent Survey and Ask credit allowances.

FreeRetrospectives is worth considering for a web-based free tool offering rooms, chat, templates, action tracking, exports, AI recaps, health checks, and bridge workflows, with no per-user pricing.

Team O'clock may be a better fit for teams seeking retrospective activities, activity history, team metrics, and meeting features through a paid plan priced per active member.

EasyRetro is another web-based retrospective option.

Verdict

Choose RetroStack if your team wants a free, multi-device board with anonymous access, adjustable voting, and exports for collaborative sessions. Its main advantage is the combination of low-friction participation and useful facilitation tools; look elsewhere if possible usage caps or OpenAI processing for requested AI analysis do not fit your requirements.
