Overview

ProjectLibre is project-management software with a free desktop edition and a cloud platform for teams. It suits individual project managers who want local project planning, as well as organizations that need shared resources and portfolio oversight. The central choice is between a no-subscription, single-user desktop app and paid cloud plans with collaboration features.

Key features

Cloud brings scheduling, resource planning, risk and cost controls, performance management, collaboration, and AI together in one project model. Its Gantt and WBS views are supported by scheduling tools for dependencies, constraints, calendars, baselines, float, critical path, and recurring, split, or effort-driven tasks. That depth is useful for managers handling complex schedules; it is more than an individual planning a straightforward task list may need.

Resource management includes leveling, enterprise resource pools, capacity and availability, teams, and resource analysis. Monte Carlo risk analysis, DCMA schedule quality audits, and Earned Value Management add controls for projects where schedule and cost oversight matter. The AI Copilot can create a project from a prompt and help edit tasks and WBS, adjust resources, and refine schedules. These capabilities make Cloud the more complete option for coordinated project work, rather than a substitute for Desktop's narrower local use.

Desktop supports Microsoft Project files and lists Primavera P6 and other project files for import. Its stated role is managing a single project locally; teams needing collaboration, shared resources, or portfolio management need Cloud. Desktop project files ordinarily remain on the user's computer, and normal Desktop connectivity does not upload plans to ProjectLibre Cloud. Cloud data is hosted in compliant data centers in appropriate geographic regions, with European users' data hosted in Europe.

Pricing

ProjectLibre offers a free plan, paid plans from $9.99/user/mo (annual), and a 7-day trial. The free-plan user limit is one, so it is a fit for an individual, not a team sharing work.

ProjectLibre Desktop — 0.00 USD per free. A single user can manage individual projects on Windows, macOS, or Linux, with no subscription. It is the clear choice for local, single-project work; it gives up Cloud's team collaboration, shared resources, and portfolio management.
ProjectLibre Core — 9.99 USD per month (billed billed annually). Includes Core and Pro User Modes, Microsoft Project import, Gantt and WBS, AI Copilot, and enterprise resource management and portfolio management marked with asterisks. Its lower price makes it the entry paid Cloud option, but the asterisks mean those two capabilities are not presented on the same terms as in Enterprise/PMO Cloud.
Enterprise/PMO Cloud — 29.99 USD per month (billed billed annually). Adds Basic and Expert UX Modes and includes Microsoft Project import, Gantt and WBS, enterprise resource management, portfolio management, and AI Copilot. It is the stronger fit for organizations that need those management capabilities without the asterisks attached to Core's resource and portfolio features.

Both paid prices are billed annually despite being expressed per month. The free desktop edition avoids a subscription but is limited to an individual project manager's local project; Cloud is where the team and portfolio capabilities sit.

Platforms

ProjectLibre is available on Linux, macOS, Windows, and the web. Desktop covers the three desktop operating systems; the web platform is the Cloud option for shared project work.

Who it's for

Choose ProjectLibre Desktop if you are an individual project manager working on a single project and value local files with no subscription. Choose Cloud if your team needs shared resources, collaboration, multiple-project portfolio management, or advanced schedule and risk controls. A team expecting collaboration from the free plan will run into its one-user limit.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free Desktop edition has no subscription and supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, making local single-project planning accessible across major desktop systems.
Pro: Cloud combines detailed scheduling, resource management, risk analysis, controls, and AI assistance, which can serve teams managing complex projects in one platform.
Pro: Desktop project files ordinarily stay on the user's computer rather than being uploaded to Cloud, a meaningful distinction for people who prefer local project storage.
Con: The free plan is capped at one user, so it does not meet a team's collaboration needs.
Con: Desktop is described for one individual managing one local project; shared resources and portfolio management require Cloud.
Con: Paid plans are billed annually, and Core's enterprise resource and portfolio features carry asterisks, making Enterprise/PMO Cloud the clearer option when those capabilities are essential.

Alternatives

For a wider look at tools centered on Gantt planning, browse Gantt Chart Software; for AI-led project tools, see AI Project Management Software; and for broader project-management options, compare Project Management Software.

Ingantt is a paid alternative with a free seven-day trial, full-feature access, AI project generation, Microsoft Project import and export, and Google Drive integration during that trial; consider it if those trial capabilities or its Android and iOS apps matter more to you.

Instagantt has a free Asana-focused version capped at three projects and one user; consider it if that narrower free setup suits your needs. GanttPRO is a paid web, iOS, and Android option with plans starting at 7.00 USD per year billed annually; consider comparing it if a paid alternative across those platforms is your priority.

TeamGantt offers a free Personal plan limited to one user, one project, and 40 tasks; consider it if that project cap matches your needs. Oracle Primavera Cloud is another paid option, with named-user cloud services; consider it if you are comparing project-management products beyond ProjectLibre.

GANTT360° is another freemium alternative. Agantty offers a free plan described as a 14-day trial with all features, limited to one project with no teams or support; consider it if a short, full-feature trial is useful. Project Plan 365 is another paid alternative to compare.

Verdict

ProjectLibre is a strong fit for an individual who wants a free, local project-planning tool, or for an organization prepared to pay annually for Cloud's scheduling, resource, risk, and portfolio capabilities. Its main trade-off is sharp: Desktop is single-user and single-project, while team collaboration and shared management call for a paid Cloud plan. Look elsewhere if you need team access without that paid-plan step.
