Overview

Nutritionists, dietitians, health coaches, functional medicine practitioners, naturopaths, and other holistic providers can use Practice Better to handle client records alongside scheduling, payments, communications, and care delivery. It also supports programs, courses, protocols, journaling, group sessions, and reporting. The combination is strongest for practices that want one platform spanning administration and client services; providers who need only a narrow scheduling or billing tool may find the scope unnecessary.

Practice Better says it serves more than 50,000 practitioners in over 100 countries. It states that it complies with HIPAA, PIPEDA, PHIPA, and GDPR, and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest, including backups and log data. These are relevant assurances for sensitive records, though integrations still require care: Practice Better warns that linking Zapier sends client contact information outside the platform and is not HIPAA-compliant for protected health information.

Key features

Client care and practice operations

Scheduling, digital intake forms, patient reminders, charting, and secure messaging cover common client workflows. Telehealth and group sessions extend that toolkit beyond one-to-one appointments, while programs, courses, and protocols support structured care. Reporting and automations add administrative breadth, but practices should weigh that breadth against the time and cost of moving several workflows into one system.

Payments and connections

Practice Better Payments, powered by Stripe, supports online and in-person payments, stored billing information, and payment plans. The platform says it connects with more than 26 tools, including Apple Health, Fitbit, Fullscript, Rupa Health, That Clean Life, and Zoom. Zapier can extend connections, but its stated handling of client contact data makes it unsuitable for protected health information.

Access and support

Practice Better is available on the web and through iOS and Android apps; it also works in supported desktop and mobile browsers. Email is its primary support channel, and the company says it typically responds within a couple of hours. That is a useful stated response expectation, though email remains the main route for help.

Pricing

Practice Better uses a freemium model. Sprout is free forever and allows three active clients, 100 MB of storage, and one practitioner license. It can be enough to explore the workflows or manage a very small caseload, but the client cap quickly rules it out for a growing practice.

Paid plans are billed monthly: Starter costs $35.00 USD per month for 10 clients, 1 GB of storage, and one practitioner license; Professional costs $69.00 USD per month for 300 clients, 5 GB of storage, and one practitioner license. Starter is a modest step up for a small solo practice, while Professional raises the client ceiling substantially without adding another practitioner seat. Plus costs $99.00 USD per month and provides unlimited clients and storage, three admin licenses, and one practitioner license. Team costs $155.00 USD per month and provides unlimited clients and storage, two practitioner licenses, and unlimited admin licenses, making it the clearest fit for a multi-practitioner operation.

Paid plans have a 14-day free trial, while Team has a 30-day free trial. The pricing note also gives paid pricing from $25/user/mo (annual); that annual starting figure is lower than the monthly plan prices above, but the plan-specific annual terms are not supplied here. Compare the billing term and seat needs before choosing. Plus expands administrative access, not practitioner capacity; Team is the plan that adds a second practitioner license.

Platforms

Practice Better supports web, iOS, and Android. Mobile apps are available for both major phone platforms, and supported desktop and mobile browsers provide another access route.

Who it's for

Solo health and wellness practitioners who want client records, appointments, payments, and care tools together should consider Starter or Professional according to caseload. A solo provider with a larger client base but a need for only one practitioner seat may find Professional’s 300-client limit a practical midpoint. Practices that need unlimited clients, more administrative access, or multiple practitioners should assess Plus and Team carefully: only Team includes more than one practitioner license.

It is a weaker match for a provider who needs a genuinely roomy free tier, multiple practitioner seats at a low monthly price, or a connection workflow involving protected health information through Zapier.

Pros and cons

Broad care and business coverage: scheduling, charting, payments, telehealth, messaging, and programs sit alongside practice administration.
Useful payment options: Stripe-powered payments include in-person transactions, stored billing details, and payment plans.
Limited free runway: Sprout’s three active clients and 100 MB storage are restrictive once a practice begins to grow.
Practitioner seats are plan-dependent: Plus remains limited to one practitioner, while Team is the first listed plan with two.
Zapier requires caution: client contact information leaves Practice Better, and the company says this connection is not HIPAA-compliant for protected health information.

Alternatives

Carepatron is worth considering when a larger free allowance is the priority: its free plan has unlimited clients, 1 GB of storage, and 100 appointments, compared with Practice Better’s three active clients. Its listed platforms also include macOS and an API.

Zanda may suit readers who want a paid option spanning Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows; its listed SMS add-on costs $4.99 per month and includes 35 credits, with additional messages at $0.09 each.

Latrexa is a web-only freemium alternative with a free plan for one doctor and a listed Starter plan at 499.00 INR per month for up to two doctors.

PracticeSuite Medical Billing is an option for readers seeking medical billing software with modular features and unlimited administrative users; it uses custom pricing.

Sessions Health offers a web-based free tier for up to three clients, one practitioner, and no administrators, and a listed Professional plan at $39.00 USD per month for the first practitioner.

Cliniko may appeal to a one-practitioner practice that values unlimited admin and reception users, locations, file storage, and patients; its listed plan is $45.00 USD per month.

Healthie is another paid option, with a listed annual Core plan at $18.00 USD per month for 10 active clients and tools including scheduling, payment processing, charting, telehealth, and a client portal.

CareCloud RCM offers custom solutions with pricing provided through sales.

Verdict

Practice Better is a strong fit for holistic health practitioners who want client care and practice administration in a single platform, especially once a paid plan’s client capacity and tools justify the monthly cost. Its main drawback is the steep jump from a three-client free tier, compounded by practitioner-seat limits on Plus and the PHI caveat around Zapier. Choose it for breadth and integrated workflows; look elsewhere if a generous free caseload or safer Zapier handling is central to the decision.
