Overview

ThinkExam is an assessment platform for schools, businesses, and government bodies that need to create and deliver exams across online, paper-based, computer-based, and hybrid formats. It is best suited to organizations that want exam creation and proctoring in one system; the trade-off is that paid tiers carry substantial annual-billing commitments, while Free sharply limits users and reported attempts.

Key features

Assessment tools and grading

Test and quiz creation, question banks, bulk question import, candidate management, and reporting cover the central assessment workflow. Automated grading for subjective responses and essays, adaptive assessments, and AI analysis of results may help organizations handle larger assessment programs, though the Free plan’s reports cover only 30 attempts. Monetization appears on Professional and Business, making those tiers more relevant to organizations that charge candidates than Standard.

Exam delivery and proctoring

ThinkExam supports online, computer-based, paper-based, remote-proctored, and hybrid exams. Think Proctor combines candidate ID checks with AI or live monitoring, 360-degree room scans, dual cameras, and a secure browser; identity verification, webcam monitoring, screen recording, and browser lockdown are supported. These controls suit high-stakes remote exams, but organizations that only need basic quiz delivery may not need the additional proctoring capability.

Connections, mobile, and privacy

LMS connections include D2L, Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle, with both LTI and non-LTI options. Think Learn live classes work with Zoom, YouTube, and Ant-Media. Android and iOS apps complement the web platform, and users can switch between an app-based test and the web platform. ThinkExam’s privacy policy describes its role as a processor for client organizations, GDPR rights, and safeguards for international transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable. Its site displays ISO 27001, ISO 9001, SOC 2 Type II, and GDPR marks.

Pricing

ThinkExam uses a freemium model and offers a 7-day trial. Paid prices are stated per month but billed annually, so the monthly figure should not be mistaken for a month-to-month commitment.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Free	Price not listed; billed annually	30 users, unlimited quizzes, reports for 30 attempts, 1 admin panel, and email/ticket support
Standard	3125.00 USD per month, billed annually	100 users, unlimited quizzes, 2 admin panels, candidate panel, and email/ticket support
Professional	6042.00 USD per month, billed annually	250 users, unlimited quizzes, 3 admin panels, candidate panel, monetization, and email/ticket support
Business	9375.00 USD per month, billed annually	500 users, unlimited quizzes, 5 admin panels, candidate panel, monetization, and email/chat/phone support
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Customized volume, unlimited quizzes, personalized applications, a personal account manager, and remote proctoring

Free is a fit for small programs that can stay within 30 users and do not need reports beyond 30 attempts. Standard raises the user ceiling to 100 but does not include monetization. Professional doubles that capacity to 250 and adds monetization, while Business serves up to 500 and adds phone and chat support alongside email. Enterprise is the route for customized volume and personalized applications, with a dedicated account manager and remote proctoring. The candidate limit is 100, so organizations should confirm how it applies to their intended setup before choosing a tier.

Platforms

ThinkExam is available on Android, iOS, and the web. The product also supports browser-based desktop delivery for exams, with mobile apps as an additional option.

Who it's for

ThinkExam makes the most sense for educational institutions, corporate organizations, and government bodies managing recurring assessments, especially those that need multiple exam formats, proctoring, and LMS connections. Small teams can try the Free tier, but its reporting cap may become a constraint quickly. Organizations seeking a straightforward exam tool without proctoring or broad administrative needs may find the paid annual tiers difficult to justify.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple delivery formats and integrated proctoring give organizations one system for remote and in-person assessment needs.
Pros: Named LMS connections and both LTI and non-LTI support make it more adaptable to different learning-platform setups.
Pros: Free includes unlimited quizzes, useful for trying out creation workflows despite the capped user count and report volume.
Cons: Free reports cover just 30 attempts, limiting its usefulness for ongoing assessment programs.
Cons: Standard and above are billed annually at high monthly prices, while Standard lacks monetization.
Cons: The stated 100-candidate limit warrants checking against planned usage, even though several tiers allow more users.

Alternatives

For organizations focused on proctoring rather than the broader assessment workflow, Exam Proctoring Software and Online Proctoring Software are relevant categories to compare. For exam creation and delivery, browse Online Exam Software; for browser lockdown as the main requirement, compare Lockdown Browser Software.

Proctorio is worth considering when a free plan and broad platform coverage matter; its Free tier is aimed at evaluation, pilots, and small-scale use, with seven-day data retention and a limited review center. Respondus Monitor may fit institutions seeking a free pilot with unlimited use and no obligation, or students looking for an annual purchase. Grafari is another paid option with free access and annual or six-month plans. OctoProctor suits organizations that prefer hours-based billing and need support for up to 1,500 simultaneous users. YuJa Engage is a paid alternative. Proctor360 is a paid remote-proctoring option with pricing handled through sales or a demo. SMOWL offers paid plans including computer monitoring or browser lock, in-person digital exams, and LMS integration. Proctortrack uses customized pricing based on an organization’s needs.

Verdict

Choose ThinkExam if your institution or organization needs a broad exam workflow, several delivery formats, integrated proctoring, and LMS connections under one roof. Its strongest case is the combination of assessment tools and exam controls; the main reason to look elsewhere is the annual cost of paid tiers, compounded by the Free plan’s small user and reporting limits.
