Overview

Ontop brings international contractor administration and freelancer payment tools together, making it a strong fit for companies hiring across borders and independent professionals with global clients. Its appeal is broad, but the business service starts at a meaningful monthly cost and freelancer payment pricing should be checked before sending a request.

Key features

Contractor hiring and administration

Companies can onboard contractors, manage agreements, handle compliance and tax documents, and arrange global USD payments processed on their behalf. Ontop says its contractor service covers 150+ countries, subject to conditions and the total number of workers. That reach is useful for distributed teams, though companies should confirm their intended locations and workforce size fit the service conditions. HRIS integrations include BambooHR for transferring new-hire information; an Ontop article also describes QuickBooks invoice syncing.

Freelancer payments and Global Account

The Global Account is aimed at remote workers and freelancers who need to receive, spend, and grow money from international clients. Freelancers can send payment requests that clients pay by card, bank transfer, or wallet without opening an Ontop account. The free account has no setup or administration fee, and payment pricing appears before a request is sent—a helpful check before committing to a transaction.

Account features include global transfers to 100+ countries, including Binance, Wise, and Revolut, a Visa Platinum card, and bill payment to 5,000+ providers in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The advertised reach is substantial, but bill payment is specifically described for those five countries. Reserve cashback and transfer benefits have merchant-category eligibility rules and monthly category and total caps, so they should not be treated as unrestricted rewards.

Support and security

Ontop describes payment information as end-to-end encrypted. Customer support channels include WhatsApp, logged-in live chat, email, and the Help Center, giving users several routes to get assistance.

Pricing

Ontop is a paid service with a free freelancer account and a free plan, but no free trial. Creating a freelancer account is free and carries no setup or administration fees; payment charges are shown before a payment request is sent.

Plan	Price	What it suits
Ontop Reserve	14.90 USD per month	Global Account users who value Reserve cashback and transfer benefits, provided they understand the category eligibility and monthly caps.
Contractor of record	49.00 USD per month; billed starting from $49/month, with the page also showing $63.2/month	Companies needing contractor onboarding, agreement and compliance management, tax document support, HRIS integrations, and global payments.

The contractor-of-record service covers 150+ countries subject to conditions and total worker count. Its starting price makes it better suited to companies that need a managed international hiring service than to those seeking a no-cost contractor tool. The freelancer account is the lower-commitment starting point, but payment pricing still matters for anyone who will regularly collect client funds.

Platforms

Ontop is available on Android, iOS, and web, covering mobile use as well as browser-based access.

Who it's for

Ontop is best for companies that need contractor onboarding, agreements, compliance, tax documents, and payments across borders, and for freelancers receiving money from international clients who also want transfer and spending tools. It is less compelling for a company whose needs do not justify a starting contractor-of-record price of $49/month, or for a freelancer who needs to know their transaction cost before deciding whether to use the account.

Pros and cons

Pros: Contractor administration combines onboarding, agreements, compliance, tax document support, integrations, and payments, reducing the need to assemble those functions separately.
Pros: Freelancers can request payment without requiring clients to create Ontop accounts, and can see payment pricing before sending a request.
Pros: Global Account transfers reach 100+ countries, with a Visa Platinum card and bill-payment support across five named Latin American countries.
Cons: Contractor-of-record service starts at $49/month, and coverage is conditional on locations and worker count.
Cons: Reserve cashback and transfer benefits are restricted by merchant category and monthly caps.
Cons: Freelancer payment pricing is transaction-dependent enough that users should review it before each request rather than assume receiving money is cost-free.

Verdict

Choose Ontop if you need one service for international contractor administration or a freelancer account that combines client payment requests with global money tools. Its breadth across business and individual use is the main reason to choose it; its conditional contractor coverage and monthly caps on Reserve benefits are the reasons to compare alternatives and check terms first.
