Overview

WebPurify has provided moderation services since 2007, serving customers from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies. Its mix of CMS plugins, API access, human review and self-hosted or dedicated infrastructure makes it applicable to both smaller sites and larger operations. The trade-off is that costs and limits vary by service: text licenses restrict concurrent requests, while dedicated human teams need advance setup.

Key features

Text and image moderation

The profanity filter supports 15 languages and custom block and allow lists. That gives site operators control over what their communities can post, though offensive intent detection is reserved for custom plans. WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plugins lower the integration burden for those CMSs; web and mobile applications can use the API.

For images, customers can choose AI review, human moderation or a hybrid workflow. WebPurify says AI checks average about 250 milliseconds, while standard human review typically takes about two minutes, with a five-minute stated maximum. The free image offer covers 100 photo moderations without a contract or credit card, a practical way to assess the service before committing to paid usage.

Video, audio and human review

WebPurify also moderates user-generated video and live streams, and supports audio moderation and custom policies. Human moderators undergo background checks and work in keycard-secured environments under a clean desk policy with anti-screengrab software. Those safeguards may matter to organizations handling sensitive material, but a dedicated team trained on explicit-image guidelines takes three to four weeks to set up.

Pricing

Text plans include a 14-day free trial with full feature access and no credit card required. All three fixed-price text plans allow unlimited submissions, so the main distinctions are concurrent requests, domains, languages and filtering tools.

Plugins — 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly: One simultaneous request, one domain or IP, no subdomains, one language, CMS plugins and email support. This is the lowest-cost option for a single CMS site with modest concurrency; the one-request cap and absence of subdomains make it a poor fit for busier or multi-site deployments.
Standard — 15.00 USD per month, billed monthly: Two simultaneous requests, one domain or IP, two subdomains, one language, full API access, and email, phone and URL filtering. It fits a site that needs API integration or more than one concurrent request, but remains limited to one language.
Enterprise — 50.00 USD per month, billed monthly: Four simultaneous requests, six domains or IPs, 12 subdomains, multiple languages, regional endpoints, SSL encryption and advanced reporting, with email support. The additional capacity and language coverage suit a multi-site operation; the four-request ceiling may still be restrictive at higher volumes.
Custom Dedicated Servers or Host it Yourself — custom pricing: Unlimited simultaneous requests and submissions, unlimited domains or IPs, multiple languages, offensive intent detection, and dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting. This is the route for organizations that need those deployment or detection options, rather than a fixed monthly tier.

Image pricing is separate from the text tiers. WebPurify AIM costs 0.00 USD per once, billed per image, and includes AI categories, real-time results, API access and email support. Live Moderation costs 0.02 USD per once, billed per photo, with turnkey criteria, results within five minutes, API access and email support. The former favors immediate automated checks; the latter adds human review for a per-photo charge.

Platforms

WebPurify supports Android, iOS, web, API and self-hosted deployments. That spread is useful for teams moderating content across mobile and web products, while CMS plugins provide a more direct option for WordPress, Drupal and Joomla sites.

Who it's for

WebPurify is a good fit for publishers and platform operators who need moderation for more than one content format, especially those who value a choice between automated and human image review. Its text plans are easiest to justify when their request concurrency and domain limits match the site's needs. Organizations that require unlimited requests, offensive intent detection or dedicated infrastructure should consider custom pricing, and teams seeking a dedicated human group need to plan around the three-to-four-week training lead time.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple image-review modes let teams balance speed and human oversight instead of relying on a single workflow.
Pro: Text trials provide full feature access for 14 days without a credit card, and image users can start with 100 free photo moderations.
Pro: CMS plugins and API access support both common publishing platforms and custom web or mobile applications.
Con: Fixed text plans cap simultaneous requests at one, two or four, so unlimited submissions do not mean unlimited processing concurrency.
Con: Dedicated human teams require three to four weeks of preparation, which does not suit organizations needing an immediate custom workflow.
Con: Offensive intent detection is confined to custom plans, making the fixed tiers less suitable for teams that need that capability.

Alternatives

Consider these alternatives when their access model, free allowance or published plan better matches your moderation workload:

Google Cloud Vision API is worth considering if you want a freemium API with a free plan; its platforms include API, Linux, macOS, web and Windows.
Amazon Rekognition Content Moderation may suit teams looking for API or web access and a 12-month free tier that includes 60 video-analysis minutes per month.
Hive Moderation is an option for developers seeking access to 10+ models and $50+ in free credits after adding a payment method.
Sightengine offers a free plan and trial; its free tier is capped at one request per second and excludes video processing and live-stream support.
Besedo is an alternative with a 14-day trial that includes 10,000 moderated content pieces per month, unlimited users, an API, moderation, automation and analytics.
Moderation API may fit teams wanting a freemium API option with a paid Basic plan that bundles video and audio moderation with 10,000 monthly messages and three team members.
Baidu AI Cloud Content Moderation is another content moderation option.
Bodyguard.ai is another paid moderation option.

Verdict

Choose WebPurify if you need one provider for text and several other content types, particularly when image moderation must be configurable between AI and human review. Its trials and inexpensive entry plans make it approachable, but request caps, custom-plan-only intent detection and the lead time for dedicated teams are meaningful constraints. Look elsewhere if your workload depends on higher fixed-tier concurrency or a different free-plan allowance.
