Overview

Lacuna is a lyrics-writing workspace that turns a short idea into song lyrics and can pass them to an AI music generator for a vocal track. It suits writers who want help shaping lines as well as a route from draft to audio; its credit rules and subscription gate on audio downloads are important trade-offs.

The editor supports line-by-line rewrites, syllable counts, rhyme highlighting and meaning-ranked rhyme suggestions, alongside song-structure controls. Automatic snapshots let writers restore an earlier take as the AI edits. Lacuna says users may record, release and commercially use lyrics they generate or edit.

The service is operated by JOYLINK LTD, based in London. Its developer API offers REST access, a TypeScript SDK, CLI tools and an MCP server for compatible agents, but API access requires Pro or Ultra and uses credit-based billing.

Key features

Drafting and revision

Starting from a one-line idea keeps the first step simple, while editing individual lines gives writers more control than regenerating a whole lyric. Syllable counts and rhyme tools are useful when a draft needs tighter phrasing or sound; meaning-ranked suggestions offer a way to look beyond obvious rhymes. The editor’s snapshots make experimentation less risky because an earlier take can be restored.

Languages and audio

The lyrics workspace supports nine languages, with phonetic rhyme support for English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Writers can send lyrics to Lacuna’s music generator, which can produce a track with AI vocals. Audio downloads require a subscription, however, so credit packs alone do not complete the route from lyrics to downloadable audio.

Credits, privacy and support

Each use of the lyrics AI assistant costs five credits, and unused credits expire at the end of a billing cycle. The privacy policy says uploaded materials, prompts, generated content and task records may be retained while available in the service, and does not guarantee absolute security. Deleting an account ends access and disables public sharing, but does not automatically erase all stored account information or content. Support is offered by email, feedback form and Discord.

Pricing

Lacuna has a free plan and paid options. The free tier provides 120 credits per month with no credit card required, enough for a limited trial of the workflow; at five credits per lyrics-assistant use, that is a modest allowance. The pricing note also gives paid access from $9.50/mo (annual).

The named monthly subscriptions are Basic at 19.00 USD per month for 2,500 credits, approximately 100 songs and up to five concurrent generations; Pro at 49.00 USD per month for 7,500 credits, approximately 300 songs and up to 10 concurrent generations; and Ultra at 99.00 USD per month for 25,000 credits, approximately 1,000 songs and up to 20 concurrent generations. Basic suits lighter ongoing use, while Pro and Ultra raise monthly capacity and concurrency; Pro or Ultra is required for API access. Unused credits do not roll over.

One-time Credit Pack S costs 50.00 USD per month and includes 3,500 credits (approximately 70 generations); M costs 100.00 USD per month for 8,000 credits (approximately 160 generations); L costs 500.00 USD per month for 50,000 credits (approximately 1,000 generations). These are one-time purchases rather than recurring plans, but they do not include audio downloads. Choose a subscription if downloadable audio is part of the goal. MP3 is the listed export format.

Platforms

Lacuna is available on web and iOS, with extension and API platforms also listed. The API’s Pro or Ultra requirement makes it a better fit for developers already prepared to pay for a subscription than for occasional experimentation.

Who it's for

Lacuna fits songwriters, rappers, topliners and producers who want structured help revising lyrics, as well as first-time writers who need a way to develop a small idea into a draft. It is less suitable for someone who only wants occasional lyric assistance and expects credits to accumulate, or who wants audio downloads without a subscription.

Pros and cons

Pros: Line-level revision, syllable counts and meaning-ranked rhyme suggestions support focused lyric work rather than just initial generation.
Pros: Automatic snapshots allow recovery of an earlier draft after AI edits.
Pros: Lyrics can move into an AI vocal track, and Lacuna says the lyrics may be used commercially.
Cons: Five credits per lyrics-assistant use and non-rolling monthly credits constrain frequent or sporadic users.
Cons: Audio downloads require a subscription, so buying credits alone is not enough.
Cons: Account deletion does not automatically erase all stored information or content, and the privacy policy does not guarantee absolute security.

Alternatives

Prompt Maschine is worth considering for someone seeking a cross-platform option across Android, iOS and macOS, with a free allowance of three generation operations per day and two variants per generation.

Lyric Genie may suit iOS or macOS users who prioritize unlimited songs, basic rhymes and synonyms, voice recordings and real-time collaboration in its free plan.

RHYMEBOOK is an alternative for Android, iOS and web users who want a free tier organized around notes, monthly AI suggestions, Ghostwriter chats, demos and transcription.

SongAI may appeal to web users who want to try song generation with 12 free credits for four watermarked songs, or consider its annual plan with a stated commercial license.

Clavet is a web-based, ad-supported option whose free plan includes unlimited songwriting and all features.

FlowTight is an iOS alternative combining voice recording and an AI lyric generator with three AI beat generations per month on its free plan.

SongIntent is a web alternative for people interested in its Hear Your Song renders, AI assists and Reference DNA upload allowance.

Tembrica Video Background Remover is a separate tool rather than a lyrics-writing alternative.

Verdict

Choose Lacuna if you want a lyric editor with meaningful line-level revision tools, draft recovery and a direct path to AI vocals. Look elsewhere if you need credits to carry forward or want audio downloads without a subscription; its strongest case is for writers who will use the workspace regularly and value the full lyrics-to-track workflow.
