Overview

RunSensible spans client intake, CRM, matter management, time tracking, documents, billing, online payments and calendars. Its legal focus is more than a shared contact and task list: firms can draft and customize documents for e-signature, store them in the cloud, and populate PDF court forms from intake and matter data—even when forms are flattened or outdated.

Trust accounting is a substantial part of the offer. The platform supports transaction logging, client-fund separation, reconciliation and compliance reports, alongside three-way reconciliation, matter-level trust ledgers, trust transfers and an audit trail. Those controls make it a more natural fit for firms handling client funds than a general-purpose practice tracker.

Key features

Connected legal workflows

Combining intake, matters, time, billing, payments and documents can keep routine work within one service. Google Drive, Dropbox, QuickBooks and Zapier are named integrations, and custom integrations can use an API key. Calendar sync with Google Calendar, deadline tracking and automated reminders address the scheduling demands of legal work.

Security and support

Security measures described by RunSensible include text or email two-factor authentication, YubiKey support and AWS-based cloud storage, with a target uptime availability of 99.8%. Its privacy policy addresses GDPR and UK GDPR responsibilities and says it will comply with HIPAA where applicable. Support is offered through live website chat, email and phone; phone hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm. Complimentary migration assistance may reduce the work of switching from another system.

Pricing

RunSensible uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free (billed billed monthly). The maker also offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. After the trial, users retain their data and settings and can resume later, making the trial less risky for firms that need time to evaluate workflows.

Plan	Price	Distinguishing feature
Free	0.00 USD per free (billed billed monthly)	Free plan
Essential	Custom pricing	Unlimited e-signature and storage
Advance	Custom pricing	Personalized client intake form
Ultimate	Custom pricing	Free business phone number

Essential is the clearest fit for firms whose document work makes unlimited signatures and storage important; Advance suits practices that want a tailored intake form, while Ultimate adds a business phone number. The lower-cost Free option may be enough to begin evaluating the service, but the plan distinctions do not establish which paid tier includes the broader practice and trust-accounting features. Firms will need custom pricing to judge the cost of those needs. RunSensible says there are no limits or extra charges for leads, contacts, matters or other assets added to an account, which is useful for growing records without per-asset fees.

Platforms

The primary platform is web, with Android and iOS apps also supported. That mix suits firms working mainly in a browser while needing mobile access; the platform list does not include desktop operating systems as separate apps.

Who it's for

RunSensible is best suited to law firms that want intake, matter administration, documents, billing and trust accounting in a cloud-based workflow. Its court-form autofill and trust controls are especially relevant to practices that regularly handle filings and client funds. Firms that need a known per-user price before evaluating a system, or that only need accounting rather than broader practice management, may prefer a more clearly priced alternative.

Pros and cons

Pros

Legal workflows go beyond basic case tracking. Court-form autofill can draw on intake and matter data, including for flattened or outdated PDFs.
Trust accounting has meaningful controls. Three-way reconciliation, matter-level ledgers, transfers and an audit trail support firms responsible for client funds.
The trial has a low-friction exit. No card is required, and data and settings remain after the 14-day period.
Records are not charged by volume. Leads, contacts, matters and other assets have no stated caps or additional charges.

Cons

Paid-plan budgeting is difficult. Essential, Advance and Ultimate use custom pricing, so firms cannot compare their costs from the plan prices.
The Free plan's scope is unclear. The listed plan distinction does not show which legal, document or trust tools are included at no cost.

Alternatives

For a free, self-hosted option, LexNebulis offers an open-source plan at 0.00 USD per free (Self-hosted · Apache 2.0) and supports Linux and web, among other platforms. Choose it if self-hosting and open-source licensing matter more than RunSensible's cloud-based approach.

BarBooks is a paid option with a free trial and an Enterprise plan whose price is custom. Account Legal offers a paid 19.94 USD per month (billed Paid monthly) plan with unlimited access, multiple trust accounts, unlimited clients and downloadable client and account reports; it may suit a buyer focused on accounting at a stated monthly price.

CosmoLex starts at 49.00 USD per month (billed billed monthly) per user, with time tracking, invoicing, online payments, trust accounting and ledgers. LeanLaw starts at 55.00 USD per month (billed per user / month) for time and expense tracking, e-payments, reporting and trust accounting (IOLTA). Either is worth comparing when a per-user starting price is preferable to RunSensible's custom-priced paid plans.

MyCase Legal Accounting costs 39.00 USD per month (billed per accounting user) as an add-on to a MyCase case-management plan and includes three-way trust reconciliations. Consider it if accounting as an add-on to MyCase is the desired setup. Lawcus is another paid option to compare.

Outlaw Practice costs 50.00 USD per month (billed monthly. Cancel anytime.) for marketing and referrals, client intake, case management, billing and invoicing. It is a fit to consider when those capabilities and a stated monthly price are priorities.

Verdict

RunSensible is a compelling shortlist choice for firms that want cloud-based practice management with court-form automation and detailed trust-accounting workflows in the same platform. Its no-card trial, retained trial data and uncapped matter assets make evaluation practical. The main reason to look elsewhere is paid-plan uncertainty: firms that need to budget by user or compare published recurring prices should start with a priced alternative instead.
