Pick IntelliJ IDEA if…

IntelliJ IDEA suits developers working in Java or Kotlin who want an IDE with debugging, build-tool, and version-control integrations. Its free core is an option for those who do not need Ultimate's advanced tools and integrations.

Pick ModDevGradle if…

It suits developers building and testing Minecraft mods for NeoForge who want Gradle-based compilation, run configurations, and unit testing. The README lists support for Gradle 8.8 and NeoForge versions later than 21.0.x.
