Overview

LessonApp frames lesson planning through modern socio-constructivist pedagogy and says it is not tied to a particular curriculum. That broad approach may suit teachers working in different education systems, though it is not a substitute for curriculum-specific planning tools. Teachers can browse and apply other users’ plans on the free tier; saving lessons privately and sharing them in groups requires Premium.

The app is available on Android, iOS and the web, and can be used through a web browser with an internet connection. LessonApp Oy processes account details such as names and email addresses, as well as lesson materials users upload. It and its service providers may transfer or access personal data outside the European Economic Area, with safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses. Users can contact the company by email or send feedback from the app’s top menu.

Key features

Lesson plans follow structured stages and draw on teaching methods presented as research-based. Basic Licence includes 50+ methods, but caps draft lessons at 10 and limits access to plans, videos and pedagogy instructions. That makes it suitable for exploring the framework, but restrictive for teachers who want to build a larger working library.

Premium expands the library to over 150 methods, allows unlimited private lessons and unlocks full pedagogy instructions and videos. It also adds self-assessment, groups and whole-unit design, which better support teachers planning connected lessons or collaborating with colleagues. The School Manager Dashboard adds teacher progress tracking, school user statistics and collaboration groups. AI-assisted lesson co-creation and lesson assessments are described as coming soon, rather than current features.

Pricing

Basic Licence is free. It includes 50+ teaching methods, up to 10 draft lessons, printing, browsing and applying other users’ plans, and limited access to plans, videos and pedagogy instructions. The draft cap and restricted resources are the main trade-offs for teachers who need more than occasional planning.

Premium Licence costs 99.00 USD per year, billed at $8.25/month, with a one-year minimum of $99; possible VAT is not included. It adds over 150 methods, unlimited private lessons, full pedagogy instructions and videos, self-assessment, groups and whole-unit design. The annual commitment is a significant drawback for anyone who wants to pay month to month. A 14-day trial offers a short opportunity to assess the paid features before committing.

PD Programs cost 680.00 USD per once, billed 680$/program. A program includes two live online sessions, a certificate, no attendee limit and LessonApp licences for up to 50 participants, making it a training option for groups rather than an individual subscription.

School Premium Licence uses custom pricing. It includes Premium features, a volume discount, getting-started training and the School Manager Dashboard, positioning it for schools that want staff-level tools and onboarding rather than separate individual plans.

Platforms

LessonApp supports Android, iOS and web. Browser access requires an internet connection, so it is not suited to planning offline.

Who it's for

LessonApp is most compelling for teachers who want structured pedagogical prompts, access to other teachers’ plans and, on Premium, private storage and group collaboration. Its unit-design tools and school dashboard also make it relevant to schools and principals coordinating teacher development. Teachers who need only a few drafts may find the free plan adequate; those who need a larger private library must accept Premium’s annual minimum. Students and families are among the audiences LessonApp addresses, but its listed planning and collaboration tools are primarily oriented toward educators and schools.

Pros and cons

Pro: A curriculum-independent planning framework with structured stages and research-based methods can serve teachers across different education settings.
Pro: Premium combines unlimited private lessons, whole-unit design and groups, supporting sustained planning and collaboration in one plan.
Pro: The school licence includes progress tracking, usage statistics and getting-started training, useful for institutional adoption.
Con: The free plan limits drafts to 10 and restricts access to instructional resources, so it may not stretch far for regular planning.
Con: Premium requires a full year at 99.00 USD, which is a substantial commitment for a teacher unsure they will use the extra features.
Con: Browser use requires an internet connection, ruling out offline planning.

Verdict

LessonApp is a strong fit for teachers who want pedagogy-led planning and are prepared to pay for private lessons, fuller resources and collaboration. The free tier makes it possible to explore its approach, but the 10-draft limit is restrictive and Premium’s annual minimum is a reason to look elsewhere if you need a larger library without a year-long commitment.
