Overview

Guusto is employee recognition and rewards software for organizations that want to reach both frontline and office staff. It suits HR teams running several kinds of recognition, especially when employees need more than one way to receive a reward. Its strongest case is flexible delivery backed by budget and reporting controls; its main caveat is that paid plans can carry substantial minimum contract costs.

Guusto was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. It supports recognition programs ranging from birthdays and anniversaries to peer shoutouts, manager awards, nominations, performance awards, safety incentives and learning incentives.

Key features

Recognition across work settings

Rewards can go by email or SMS, be printed or shown as QR codes, or be routed to a manager for in-person delivery. That range makes Guusto a practical fit for organizations whose staff do not all sit at a desk or check workplace apps regularly. Recipients can redeem Guusto cards for gift cards, company swag, charity donations or custom rewards.

Program and budget administration

Workspaces can have separate budgets and administrators, with approval workflows and cost-center pools to help keep programs distinct. Real-time reporting and taxable-benefit reporting give HR and finance teams tools to monitor spending and account for rewards. These controls are useful for multi-team programs, though they do not remove the need to assess each paid tier's minimum contract.

Integrations, security and support

Guusto lists HRIS, single sign-on and collaboration integrations, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint and UKG Pro. Its API supports sending recognition and integrating reporting, while report exports can be scheduled over SFTP. The trust page identifies PCI DSS and SOC 2 compliance and covers audit logging, data security, multifactor authentication, access monitoring, backups and encryption at rest. Guusto states an average support response time under 10 minutes and a 95% support satisfaction rating.

Pricing

Guusto uses a freemium model and offers a 30-day trial. Its free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and has no minimum reward spend. It includes reward sending, a mobile app and more than 100 merchant options, making it the lowest-commitment way to try a recognition program. The free plan's published feature set is narrower than the paid tiers.

Lite costs 150.00 USD per month and includes one Sender Seat, 250 Recipient Seats, bulk sending to unlimited recipients and the ability to cancel unclaimed gifts. For Lite and higher tiers, unclaimed gifts are credited back in full. Lite may suit a smaller team that values a fixed monthly price and bulk sending, but its 250 Recipient Seats are a meaningful capacity limit.

Essential is billed annually at $4.00/mo per Sender Seat and $0.70/mo per Recipient Seat, with a minimum contract of USD $200/mo. It adds seat-based pricing for organizations that want to scale beyond Lite's fixed recipient allowance, but the contract floor can outweigh the per-seat rates for a small program.

Premium is billed annually at $5.00/mo per Sender Seat and $1.00/mo per Recipient Seat, with a minimum contract of USD $500/mo. It is the higher-cost seat-based tier; organizations should weigh the additional spend against their need for a larger program rather than treating the listed seat prices as the full monthly commitment.

Enterprise has custom pricing. It is positioned for enterprise-grade recognition, customization, automation and integrations. Essential and Premium both have minimum contract costs and annual billing, so organizations with limited budgets may prefer the free plan or Lite. Guusto's published pricing also gives a paid-from rate of $4/user/mo.

Platforms

Guusto is available on Android, iOS and the web, and it offers an API. Its email, SMS, print, QR-code and manager-delivery options add ways to reach employees beyond app notifications.

Who it's for

Guusto is best suited to HR leaders building recognition programs for a mixed or distributed workforce, particularly in healthcare, hospitality, retail, construction, manufacturing and financial services. Its varied reward channels and separate budgets can help organizations run programs across teams and work locations. Small organizations should look closely at the paid-tier minimums before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple delivery methods can reach employees who are not regular users of workplace software.
Pros: Separate workspace budgets, approval workflows, cost-center pools and reporting support oversight of multi-team programs.
Pros: The free plan has no minimum reward spend, and unclaimed gifts are credited back in full on Lite and higher tiers.
Cons: Essential and Premium require minimum monthly contracts of USD $200/mo and USD $500/mo, respectively, and are billed annually.
Cons: Lite includes only 250 Recipient Seats, which may constrain a growing workforce even though bulk sending is unlimited.

Alternatives

Bonusly is another freemium option; its free plan is billed forever, supports up to 8 users, and includes peer recognition, guidance, Slack and Teams integrations, and iOS and Android apps. Consider it when that small free-team allowance and those collaboration integrations fit better than Guusto's no-minimum-reward-spend free plan.

Culture Cloud is a paid alternative available on Android, iOS, web, as an extension and through an API.

Assembly has a free plan and lists an Empower tier at 3.00 USD per year, billed at $3 per user / month (billed yearly). Consider it if its peer-to-peer recognition, points and budget controls, Dora Hub AI insights or advanced people analytics better match your priorities.

Motivosity is a paid alternative with custom pricing for its Celebrating People plan, which includes a social platform and mobile app, milestone celebration programs, corporate gifting, a global reward marketplace and a native mobile app.

Mo is a paid option with quote-based pricing.

Nectar Recognize is a paid option priced by quote per employee per month.

Applauz has no free plan and publishes Recognition Essentials at 3.75 USD per month per license, billed annually, for up to 1,000 employees; above that, pricing is custom. It may suit organizations wanting a published per-license rate within that employee range.

Recognize is a paid alternative with a free trial and an annually billed Start-Up plan that includes social employee recognition, gift cards, Microsoft integrations, SAML SSO and reporting.

Verdict

Choose Guusto if your organization needs recognition that can reach frontline and office employees through different delivery channels, with budgets and reporting to manage programs across teams. The free plan offers a low-commitment starting point, but Essential and Premium make more sense when their annual terms and minimum contracts fit your scale; otherwise, consider a lower-commitment alternative.
