Overview

TaxDown is an online Spanish tax-preparation and filing service for individuals and autónomos, offered on the web and in mobile apps. It is best suited to people who want an expert to review their return or need help with rental, investment or self-employment income.

Its free tier stops at calculating a result; filing and expert review start with a paid plan. The central choice is how much help to pay for, from basic tax support to a dedicated adviser.

Key features

Preparation, deductions and review

TaxDown imports tax data through Cl@ve PIN, a digital certificate or a reference number. Its Rita engine selects applicable questions and checks more than 250 deductions and benefits, which may be useful for returns with income or circumstances beyond a simple salary. Paid return plans include expert review before submission and filing with Hacienda. Nothing is submitted without the user's confirmation.

Income and tax matters

The service supports self-employment, rental and investment income. It calculates rental income and expenses and identifies deductible costs and exemptions; for investments, it calculates gains and losses and integrates investment platforms. For a tax notice, its AI identifies the type, year and deadline, and the team prepares a response. These capabilities make TaxDown more relevant to people with varied tax affairs than to someone seeking only a free calculation.

Support and security

PRO includes chat, email or phone support with a response in under 24 hours; LIVE adds adviser access by chat or WhatsApp and a response in minutes; FULL includes a dedicated adviser. A virtual assistant operates 24/7. TaxDown says its connection to Hacienda uses Cl@ve, data is encrypted, and it does not submit a return until the user confirms it. It also says it does not sell or share user data.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 EUR per free and calculates a return result. It does not include expert review or filing, so it suits people who only want a free estimate, not those ready to submit a return through the service.

PRO costs 35.00 EUR per year, billed annually, and includes one return, calculation and optimization, expert review, filing, covered notifications and fiscal support with a response under 24 hours. It is the entry point for someone who wants a reviewed, filed return without enhanced adviser access.

LIVE costs 45.00 EUR per year, billed annually. It includes everything in PRO, plus advisers by chat or WhatsApp and a response in minutes. The €10 annual premium over PRO is for faster, more direct help, not an additional return.

FULL costs 65.00 EUR per year, billed annually, and adds a personal adviser, review of the last four returns, and models 149, 151 and 210. It suits people who value ongoing, personal help or need those models. FULL does not include traceability or second residence procedures and is unavailable for the regional foral tax regime, so those users should choose another route.

For autónomos, STANDARD costs 2990.00 EUR per month with monthly billing and a minimum stay of three months. It includes autónomo registration, quarterly IRPF and IVA filings, an income tax return, a 24-hour AI assistant and chat support under 24 hours. PREMIUM costs 5990.00 EUR per month on the same minimum term; it adds a personal gestor, priority WhatsApp, tax-notice support and tax planning. These monthly plans are aimed at self-employed users seeking recurring administration, rather than someone who needs a single annual return.

Subscriptions contracted from 15 March through 31 December renew between February and March. Users can cancel through the website, with access continuing to the end of the current billing cycle. TaxDown accepts major cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Platforms

TaxDown runs on the web and has Android and iOS apps. That combination suits users who want to prepare a return from a computer or phone, while access to Spanish tax data relies on Hacienda-compatible authentication methods.

Who it's for

TaxDown is a strong fit for Spanish taxpayers who want a return checked by a tax expert, particularly those with rental, investment or self-employment income. PRO covers a single return with filing and review; LIVE and FULL make more sense when response speed or a dedicated adviser matters. The free plan is suitable only for calculating a result. People in the foral regime should not choose FULL, and autonomous workers needing quarterly support should compare the STANDARD and PREMIUM commitment and monthly cost against their needs.

Pros and cons

Pros: Paid return plans combine calculation, expert review and filing, reducing the need to handle those steps separately.
Pros: Rental and investment calculations, plus support for self-employment, address income types that can make a return more involved.
Pros: Support scales from under-24-hour assistance to WhatsApp and a dedicated adviser, so users can choose whether faster or personal help is worth paying for.
Cons: Free users cannot get expert review or file through TaxDown, limiting the no-cost plan to a result calculation.
Cons: FULL excludes traceability and second residence procedures and is unavailable under the foral regime.
Cons: The autónomo plans carry a three-month minimum commitment, which is a significant constraint for someone seeking only occasional assistance.

Alternatives

Personal Tax Software is a useful place to compare more services by category. Choose WISO Steuer if you want to test all functions for free and pay only when submitting. SARS eFiling is a free option for submitting returns and declarations, making payments to SARS and managing tax services online. For Canadian tax filing with T-slip and RL-slip income, tuition and student credits, consider H&R Block Tax Software Canada. PITax is a free option for preparing and submitting Polish PIT declarations. TurboTax Canada offers a free plan for simple tax situations, while TaxAct offers free federal filing for eligible standard returns, with state filing charged separately. ClearTax is an alternative for DIY income-tax filing. e-pity offers unlimited completed forms for free when the user transfers 1.5% of tax to an eligible public-benefit organization.

Verdict

Choose TaxDown if you want Spanish tax preparation with expert review and filing, especially when rental, investment or self-employment income makes the return less straightforward. PRO is the sensible starting point for one reviewed return; step up to LIVE or FULL only if faster support or personal advice justifies the extra cost. Look elsewhere if a free filing service is essential, or if FULL's foral-regime and procedure exclusions apply to you.
