Overview

Framer is a visual, no-code website builder that combines page design with CMS, SEO, analytics and managed hosting. It suits design-led teams that want to build and maintain a site together; its free tier is useful for trying the workflow, but a custom domain requires a paid plan and the Canvas needs an internet connection.

It pairs editable AI-generated pages and content with responsive layouts and team workflows. Choose it for control over how a site looks and how teams work on it, not for offline Canvas work or code export.

Key features

Design, content and publishing

Framer brings visual design, responsive layouts, CMS collections and SEO tools into one site-building workflow, with hosting included. Its AI agent can create editable pages, sections, copy and visuals inside a project, which gives teams a starting point they can continue shaping rather than a fixed output. Blogging is supported, and published sites can be crawled and indexed unless a page is set to noindex.

Analytics, selling tools and video hosting are among its capabilities, but Framer has no e-commerce. That makes it a poor fit for a shop that needs built-in commerce, even though selling tools are present. Custom components, integrations and code-based extensions offer additional flexibility; components can also be reused in React projects outside Framer. The trade-off is that code export is not supported.

Collaboration and integrations

Real-time collaboration, branching, staging and previews make Framer more suited to shared site work than a solo page editor. Workspaces without a subscription are limited to three editors, so a team that needs more collaborators will need a paid plan. Integration guides cover Meta Pixel, Typeform, webhooks, Clay, Loom, Trustpilot, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager; third-party plugins add options for content generation, asset management, integrations and automation.

The company states that it has ISO 27001 compliance, completed a SOC 2 Type 2 audit and is committed to GDPR and CCPA compliance. It also requires TLS 1.2 or higher, uses HSTS, and applies penetration testing, code review and security scanning.

Pricing

Framer is freemium, with a free tier and a free trial. The listed starting price is $10/mo (annual), while the plan prices below distinguish monthly billing from the annual starting-price note.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: 500 AI credits to try, a free Framer domain, 1 GB bandwidth, design pages, 10 CMS collections, 1,000 pages, 5 MB file uploads and one free locale. It is a substantial way to explore site creation, but the free domain cannot be replaced with a custom domain, and unsubscribed workspaces support up to three editors.
Basic — 10.00 USD per month, billed per month: a free custom domain, two CMS collections, 50 GB bandwidth, built-in SEO and a localization add-on. This fits a smaller site that needs its own domain and SEO tools, but gives up eight CMS collections compared with Free and has less bandwidth.
Pro — 30.00 USD per month, billed per month: a free custom domain, 10 CMS collections, 100 GB bandwidth, site redirects, a staging environment and branching with previews. The higher price makes sense for teams that need staged changes and branching; the two lower tiers do not include those listed Pro workflows.
Enterprise — custom pricing: custom limits. It is the tier to consider when standard plan limits do not fit.

Framer includes managed hosting, but no e-commerce. A paid plan is necessary for a custom domain; the free plan instead uses a Framer domain.

Platforms

The Canvas requires an internet connection and a recent Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge browser on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS. Desktop apps are available for macOS and Windows. Published sites support macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS, subject to supported browser versions. Framer is therefore accessible to visitors across desktop and mobile systems, but the authoring Canvas is not an offline tool.

Who it's for

Framer is a strong fit for designers and teams building content-rich, responsive sites who value visual control, CMS, SEO and shared workflows. The free tier can suit an early project using a Framer domain; Basic fits a smaller custom-domain site, while Pro is better for work that needs staging, redirects or branching. Look elsewhere if you need offline editing, downloadable site code or built-in e-commerce.

Pros and cons

Pros: Editable AI-generated site elements, visual design and CMS tools share one workflow, so teams can move from generated starting points to a managed site.
Pros: Real-time collaboration, staging and branching with previews support coordinated site work, especially on Pro.
Pros: Search indexing is supported by default unless pages are set to noindex, with built-in SEO on Basic and Pro.
Cons: Custom domains require a paid plan, so the free tier is not a route to a free branded domain.
Cons: No code export and an internet-dependent Canvas limit portability and offline work.
Cons: No e-commerce makes it unsuitable for businesses that need built-in online sales.

Alternatives

For a different fit, compare Webador, GoDaddy Websites + Marketing, Strikingly, Tilda, Wix Logo Maker, WordPress.com, Webflow AI and Carrd.

Webador: Choose it if an always-free plan is the priority; its free plan has essential website features but no domain name.
GoDaddy Websites + Marketing: Consider it if email marketing volume is central: Basic includes 100 monthly sends and Commerce includes 100,000 monthly sends.
Strikingly: Consider Limited for up to five pages per site, or Pro if selling a single product on a plan is the deciding need.
Tilda: Choose it for a single website with full access to blocks and a custom domain on Personal, priced at 15.00 USD per month.
Wix Logo Maker: Pick it when logo generation, rather than full website building, is the goal; its free plan includes 120 AI credits per month, capped at 30 per day.
WordPress.com: Its free plan is a fit for readers who want unlimited pages and posts with 1 GB storage and basic stats for seven days.
Webflow AI: Consider Starter if a free Webflow.io domain, limited CMS and two static pages meet the need.
Carrd: Choose it for a free account with up to three sites when a lightweight site setup is the priority.

Verdict

Choose Framer if visual design control, CMS and collaborative site workflows matter more than code portability or offline editing. Its free tier is a practical starting point for a Framer-domain project, while paid plans unlock custom domains and, at Pro, staging and branching. Look elsewhere for built-in e-commerce, code export or a free custom domain.
